Faith becomes the bridge
between where I am and
where I want to go…
Dear Reader,
Wish you a very warm welcome.
Let me tell you short story. Once there was a
disobedient child. One day his father told him, “If
you earn Rs. 5 a day, I will allow you to have
dinner at home, else no food for you”.
So next day he went to his uncle and said, “Please
give me Rs. 5 else my dad won’t give me food.”
Likewise every day he went to some or the other
relative of his, and collected Rs. 5 every day.
One fine day all of them refused to give him Rs. 5,
and so he had managed to work hard to earn Rs.
5 all himself and brought home. Everyday his
father had asked him to throw that Rs. 5 which
he collected in a well. That day when he earned
himself, it was very painful for him to throw
away that Rs. 5 because he had worked hard to
earn it.
This is truth… We always prioritize safety and
worth for our goods rather being careless for the
things and goods of others. We must not be
selfish all the time because
“Being selfish is not bad. It’s bad if you never
consider how others feel at all”…
Thank you and good luck for your success…

Solve if you are a genius!
How?
Two fathers and their two sons go fishing together. They each catch
one fish to take home with them. They do not lose any fish, and yet
when they arrive at home they only have three fish. How can this be?
 I'm so fast you can't see me, though
everyone else can see straight
through me. I don't stop until the day
you die. What am I?
 What goes through a door but never
goes in and never comes out?
 Which vehicle is spelled the same
forwards and backwards?
 I turn around once. What is out will
not get in. I turn around again. What
is in will not get out. What am I?
 We hurt without moving. And poison
without touching. We bear truth and
lies, but are not judged by size. What
are we?

Bangalore
Karnataka, India
Before being called Bangalore, it was known as
Bengalval–Uru which means ‘City of guards’.
Another legend is that the name originates
from Hosalya king Veera Ballala, who when
being fed boiled beans called the place ‘Benda–
Kaal–Uru (Land of boiled beans).
Every one of us knows that Bangalore is
known as the Silicon Valley of India, but the
amazing fact is that this city house 212
software companies.
In 1906, Bangalore became one of the first
cities in India to have electricity from hydro
power, making it the first city to be electrified
in India.
With more than 200 lakes and tanks,
Bangalore could boast of highest number of
lakes earlier, but most of them are untraceable
due to land encroachment and they turned
into Golf courses and Clubs.
However it is known as Garden City, where
40% of landscape is covered with gardens and
15% with lakes and ponds.
With over more than 800 clubs and bars, this
city is also termed as “Pub Capital of India”.
Bangalore also records the highest number of
cigarette smokers in India.

making it the Suicide Capital of India.

Lal Bagh
Lalbagh is a popular botanical garden situated
in Bangalore (Bengaluru). This garden is a
home to a variety of flora and fauna. There are
many different kinds of bird species found here
like Myna, Common Egret, Parakeets, and Pond
Heron etc. Lalbagh Botanical Garden also has a
glass house, an aquarium and a lake that adds
to the already existing beauty of the garden.
There are two annual flower shows celebrated
in the glass house. The largest collection of
tropical plants in India is at Lalbagh. This
garden has also promoted and cultivated the
concept of horticulture and is under the
protection of Directorate of Horticulture. It is
spread over 240 acres.
It is one of the major tourist attractions
in Bangalore. During the reign of Hyder Ali in
1760, the construction of this garden started
but was later on completed on the orders of his
son, Tipu Sultan. During that time Mughal
gardens were capturing great popularity due to
which Hyder Ali wanted to cultivate this
exquisite botanical garden. The garden gained
more importance when his son Tipu Sultan
added the concept of horticulture in the garden.
Many different species of plants were imported
from different countries making this garden the
apple of everyone’s eye. The garden is built
similar to the design used in Mughal gardens.
Lotus Lake
There is a lotus lake inside the garden
apart from the huge Lalbagh Lake
The rock is one of
the oldest existing
rocks in the world.
There is a small
monument
constructed on this
rock that has won
the recognition of
National Geological
Monument. This
garden is a full

entertainment and
knowledge.
Bangalore Palace was the private residence of the
Wodeyars, erstwhile maharajas of the state of
Bangalore. The palace is now owned by the
Mysore royal family. Bangalore Palace was built
in 1862 at the exorbitant cost of one million
rupees. The palace is believed to be designed to
resemble Windsor Castle; however this is not
true. A big part of the palace has been converted
into galleries featuring hunting trophies, family
photos and a collection of Indian and
international paintings. The palace grounds are
now Bangalore’s hottest concert arenas, having
hosted rock ‘n’ roll biggies such as Iron Maiden,
the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Deep Purple
Built at the exorbitant cost of one million rupees,
the grand, Tudor-style Bangalore Palace
(Bengaluru Palace) was believed to be modeled
on Windsor Castle, complete with fortified
towers and turreted parapets. The palace was
built by Rev. Garrett, who was the first Principal
of the Central High School in Bangalore, now
known as Central College. The construction of
the palace was started in 1862 and completed in
1944. In 1884, it was bought by the then
Maharaja of Mysore Chamaraja Wodeyar. Now
owned by the Mysore royal family, the palace
has recently undergone a renovation. It is
mistakenly believed to be a replica of the
Windsor Castle in England; the audio tour of the
palace clearly states that there is no resemblance
between the Bangalore Palace and Windsor
Castle.

Vidhana Soudha, the historic building
constructed in Mysore Neo-Dravidian
architectural style, currently houses the
Karnataka state Government Legislative
Chambers. The foundation for the construction
of Vidhana Soudha was laid on the 13th of July,
1951 by the then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal
Nehru. But, its design and construction are
credited to Kengal Hanumanthaiah (Karnataka
Chief Minister between 1952 and 1956) who
travelled to places like United States, Europe and
Russia to incorporate the designs of various
famous buildings and constructions to conceive a
unique plan for the Vidhana Soudha.
The construction of the marvelous building
completed in 1956. The 46 m high granite and
porphyry building adorned with an ornate dome
on each corner has a Four-headed Lion
sculpture, the national symbol of the country,
embellishing the main entrance. Vidhan Soudha
has three hundred rooms housing around 22
departments of the Karnataka Government. The
elaborately carved sandalwood door in the
Cabinet room is one of the principal attractions
of the building.

Thippagondanahalli Reservoir
Bird Watching in the Thippagondanahalli Reservoir (T.G. Halli Dam or Chamarajasagar) is
diverse and exciting. Located close to 40 km from the Bangalore city at the confluence of
two rivers, Arkavathy and Kumudavathi, this man – made reservoir was a consequence to
the construction of Manchanabele Dam in 1933.
The various birds common to this reservoir are black kites, white – browed bulbils, pied
bushcats, oriental kingfishers, purple – rumped sunbirds, tawny eagles, cormorants, Indian
rollers, brahminy kites and several more aquatic birds.
The advantage of bird watching in Thippagondanahalli is the range of terrestrial and
aquatic avian species. With the focus on this variety of Indian sub – continental birds
including migratory species, most birders fail to watch out for the generous population
of fish, turtles and terrapins.
Another feature that will make you fall in love with the reservoir is when you watch
the fisherman on their morning trips. Brahminy and Paraiah kites are usually spotted
on their own, or in pairs. Despite trend, to watch flocks of 20 – 25 of them swoop
down to the banks while the fishermen are cleaning their catch for the day, this is trly
exhilarating birding experience.

Our Belly Button
Our belly button (NABHI) is an amazing gift
given to us by our creator. A 62 year old man
had poor vision in his left eye. He could hardly
see especially at night and was told by eye
specialists that his eyes were in a good
condition but the only problem was that the
veins supplying blood to his eyes were dried up
and he would never be able to see again.
According to Science, the first part created after
conception takes place is the belly button. After
it’s created, it joins to the mother’s placenta
through the umbilical chord.
Our belly button is surely an amazing thing!
According to science, after a person has passed
away, the belly button is still warm for 3 hours
the reason being that when a woman conceives
a child, her belly button supplies nourishment
to the child through the child’s belly button.
And a fully grown child is formed in 270 days
= 9 months. This is the reason all our veins are
connected to our belly button which makes it
the focal point of our body. Belly button is life
itself!
The “PECHOTI” is situated behind the belly
button which has 72,000 plus veins over it. The
total amount of blood vessels we have in our
body are equal to twice the circumference of
the earth.
Applying oil to belly button CURES dryness of
eyes, poor eyesight, pancreas over or under
working, cracked heels and lips, keeps face
glowing, shiny hair, knee pain, shivering,
lethargy, joint pains, and dry skin.
At night before bed time, put 3 drops of pure
ghee or coconut oil in your belly button and
spread it 1 and half inches around your belly
button.
For knee pain
At night before bed time, put 3 drops of castor
oil in your belly button and spread it 1 and half
inches around your belly button.
For shivering and lethargy, relief from joint
pain, dry skin
At night before bed time, put 3 drops of
mustard oil in your belly button and spread it 1
and half inches around your belly button.
WHY PUT OIL IN YOUR BELLY BUTTON?
You belly button can detect which veins have
dried up and pass this oil to it hence open them
up.
When a baby has a stomach ache, we normally
mix asafoetida (hing) and water or oil and
apply around the naval. Within minutes the
ache is cured. Oil works the same way.
Try it. There's no harm in trying.
You can keep a small dropper bottle with the
required oil next to your bed and drop few
drops onto navel and massage it before going to
sleep. This will make it convenient to pour and
avoid accidental spillage.

Ghee Masala Dosa
Ingredients:
Dosa Butter
 2 cups dosa rice (Low quality raw rice; any
raw rice is ok)
 1/2 cup urad dal (extra 1/4 cup if using
mixer grinder and climate is cold)
 1 tsp methi/Fenugreek seeds
 2 tbsp chana dal or toor dal
 1/4 cup thick Poha/beaten rice/gatti
avalakki (increase if climate is cold)
 1 tsp sugar (optional; gives red colour)
 Salt as per your taste
 Water as required
Potato Filling
 2 medium sized potato
 2 medium sized onion
 1/2 tsp mustard
 1/4 tsp jeera
 1 tsp urad dal
 1 tsp chana dal or gram dal
 2-4 green chillies
 1/2 tsp finely chopped ginger
 8-10 cashews
 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
 A pinch of asafotida
 7-8 curry leaves
 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
 4 tbsp cooking oil
 Salt as per your taste
Red Chutney
 2 tbsp chana dal or gram dal
 3-6 red chili
 8-10 shallots / one small onion
 4-5 cloves of garlic
 A small piece of tamarind
 2 tbsp grated coconut(optional)
Procedure (Ghee Masala Dosa):
Masala Dosa Batter
 Rinse and soak all the ingredients mentioned for dosa batter except poha/beaten rice. Soak it in good drinking
water for 5-6 hours.
 Now drain the water and preserve it in a container, because the same water is used while grinding. Doing so will
help in better fermentation. Meanwhile soak the poha/beaten rice for 10 minutes and drain the water.
 Now pour the drained ingredients and the poha/beaten rice into a wet grinder, and grind it by adding the water
gradually. You can use mixer grinder as well but dont forget to increase the quantity of urad dal as mentioned in
the ingredients list. Grind it till you get a smooth and fluffy batter and empty the batter into a container.
 Close the lid and leave it for 8-9 hours or overnight for fermentation. Before using the batter add salt and mix
well.
Potato filling
 Wash and boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker. Once it is cool, peel it and smash it also keep all other
ingredients ready.
 Take a frying pan, add oil and mustard seeds. Once the mustard starts spluttering add jeera, urad dal, channa dal
and cashews one by one. Saute it for a while. When the urad dal turns brown add slit green chilly, grated ginger
and curry leaves. Saute it for 5 seconds.
 Add turmeric powder and asafoetida and saute it for a while. And then add chopped onions and fry till the onions
turn soft.
 Now add smashed potato and mix for a while, Once it is mixed add salt and chopped coriander leaves and mix it
again.
Red Chutney
 Roast red chilly and channa dal on medium flame with little oil. Once it is done add shallots / onion and garlic
pods and saute it for a minute.
 Once it is cool, transfer it to the mixie jar and grind it with tamarind and coconut. The chutney should be thick
yet spreadable.
Ghee Masala Dosa
 Heat a flat pan or a flat non-stick pan. Smear some oil if you are using an iron pan or griddle. Don't smear oil on a
non stick pan, as then you won't be able to spread the dosa batter. Spread the dosa batter in a circular way on the
pan and close the lid. Wait for 5 seconds and open the lid.
 Drizzle some oil /ghee / melted butter (Generally in restuarants they use ghee or butter or oil generously, and that
is the reason restuarant masala dosas will be very tasty). Spread the red garlic chutney. Place 2 tbsp of potato
filling, fold the dosa in which ever style you want.
 Now serve it with either coconut chutney or sambar or both. If you want also with a dollop of butter.
Enjoy your luscious dish

SEXUAL IMMORALITY
God in his likeness and image created Man. He created the human race to bear fruit and enjoy
his works of creation. God gave man a companion Woman to help him n her to look up to him.
Our bodies are bought with a price and God dwells within us.
From time immemorial ''sex'' has played a big role in man's life. Earlier it was believed and
practiced that only marriage man and woman become one and each have no authority over
his/her body but willingly love one another. But gone are the days where Sex is considered
sacred and a private affair.
With easy access to the Internet, social media, all sorts of sexual immorality is taking place. Aids,
STDS, porn, master baton, divorce, rape, abortions, unhealthy sexual desires, live in relations and
one night stands have increased. Young boys and girls love to experiment with sex these days.
A man looks at a woman's body as an object of pleasure filled with lust and immorality.
Immoral dressing and behavior most of the time, causes the animal in certain men to rape.
We need to respect our bodies, nourish it with good thoughts and action and bear fruitful fruits.
We are not sex machines to indulge in vulgarity and immorality and all sorts of unethical
practices all in the name of Love. Sexual immorality kills the spirit that dwells in our bodies.
Let's stop and think. Spread the message that –
“Our bodies are the temple of the holy spirit.
We are bought with a price”.

  • 8. Dear Reader, Wish you a very warm welcome. Let me tell you short story. Once there was a disobedient child. One day his father told him, “If you earn Rs. 5 a day, I will allow you to have dinner at home, else no food for you”. So next day he went to his uncle and said, “Please give me Rs. 5 else my dad won’t give me food.” Likewise every day he went to some or the other relative of his, and collected Rs. 5 every day. One fine day all of them refused to give him Rs. 5, and so he had managed to work hard to earn Rs. 5 all himself and brought home. Everyday his father had asked him to throw that Rs. 5 which he collected in a well. That day when he earned himself, it was very painful for him to throw away that Rs. 5 because he had worked hard to earn it. This is truth… We always prioritize safety and worth for our goods rather being careless for the things and goods of others. We must not be selfish all the time because “Being selfish is not bad. It’s bad if you never consider how others feel at all”… Thank you and good luck for your success… Shoaib Makki T.J. stmakki3@gmail.com Editor – In – Chief To submit an article or give content for any field: Email: themagexweekly@gmail.com To avail your subscriptions enter your email address in: https://www.facebook.com/edutainment.art/?ref=p age_internal Design and Editing: Shoaib Makki T.J. • 20. Bangalore Palace was the private residence of the Wodeyars, erstwhile maharajas of the state of Bangalore. The palace is now owned by the Mysore royal family. Bangalore Palace was built in 1862 at the exorbitant cost of one million rupees. The palace is believed to be designed to resemble Windsor Castle; however this is not true. A big part of the palace has been converted into galleries featuring hunting trophies, family photos and a collection of Indian and international paintings. The palace grounds are now Bangalore’s hottest concert arenas, having hosted rock ‘n’ roll biggies such as Iron Maiden, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Deep Purple Built at the exorbitant cost of one million rupees, the grand, Tudor-style Bangalore Palace (Bengaluru Palace) was believed to be modeled on Windsor Castle, complete with fortified towers and turreted parapets. The palace was built by Rev. Garrett, who was the first Principal of the Central High School in Bangalore, now known as Central College. The construction of the palace was started in 1862 and completed in 1944. In 1884, it was bought by the then Maharaja of Mysore Chamaraja Wodeyar. Now owned by the Mysore royal family, the palace has recently undergone a renovation. It is mistakenly believed to be a replica of the Windsor Castle in England; the audio tour of the palace clearly states that there is no resemblance between the Bangalore Palace and Windsor Castle. • 21. Vidhana Soudha, the historic building constructed in Mysore Neo-Dravidian architectural style, currently houses the Karnataka state Government Legislative Chambers. • 26. Thippagondanahalli Reservoir Bird Watching in the Thippagondanahalli Reservoir (T.G. Halli Dam or Chamarajasagar) is diverse and exciting. Located close to 40 km from the Bangalore city at the confluence of two rivers, Arkavathy and Kumudavathi, this man – made reservoir was a consequence to the construction of Manchanabele Dam in 1933. The various birds common to this reservoir are black kites, white – browed bulbils, pied bushcats, oriental kingfishers, purple – rumped sunbirds, tawny eagles, cormorants, Indian rollers, brahminy kites and several more aquatic birds.
  • 27. The advantage of bird watching in Thippagondanahalli is the range of terrestrial and aquatic avian species. With the focus on this variety of Indian sub – continental birds including migratory species, most birders fail to watch out for the generous population of fish, turtles and terrapins. Another feature that will make you fall in love with the reservoir is when you watch the fisherman on their morning trips. Brahminy and Paraiah kites are usually spotted on their own, or in pairs. Despite trend, to watch flocks of 20 – 25 of them swoop down to the banks while the fishermen are cleaning their catch for the day, this is trly exhilarating birding experience. © The MAGEX Weekly

  • 37. © The MAGEX Weekly Our Belly Button Our belly button (NABHI) is an amazing gift given to us by our creator. A 62 year old man had poor vision in his left eye. He could hardly see especially at night and was told by eye specialists that his eyes were in a good condition but the only problem was that the veins supplying blood to his eyes were dried up and he would never be able to see again. According to Science, the first part created after conception takes place is the belly button. After it’s created, it joins to the mother’s placenta through the umbilical chord. Our belly button is surely an amazing thing! According to science, after a person has passed away, the belly button is still warm for 3 hours the reason being that when a woman conceives a child, her belly button supplies nourishment to the child through the child’s belly button. And a fully grown child is formed in 270 days = 9 months. This is the reason all our veins are connected to our belly button which makes it the focal point of our body. Belly button is life itself! The “PECHOTI” is situated behind the belly button which has 72,000 plus veins over it. The total amount of blood vessels we have in our body are equal to twice the circumference of the earth. Applying oil to belly button CURES dryness of eyes, poor eyesight, pancreas over or under working, cracked heels and lips, keeps face glowing, shiny hair, knee pain, shivering, lethargy, joint pains, and dry skin. At night before bed time, put 3 drops of pure ghee or coconut oil in your belly button and spread it 1 and half inches around your belly button. For knee pain At night before bed time, put 3 drops of castor oil in your belly button and spread it 1 and half inches around your belly button. For shivering and lethargy, relief from joint pain, dry skin At night before bed time, put 3 drops of mustard oil in your belly button and spread it 1 and half inches around your belly button. WHY PUT OIL IN YOUR BELLY BUTTON? You belly button can detect which veins have dried up and pass this oil to it hence open them up. When a baby has a stomach ache, we normally mix asafoetida (hing) and water or oil and apply around the naval. Within minutes the ache is cured. Oil works the same way. Try it. There's no harm in trying. You can keep a small dropper bottle with the required oil next to your bed and drop few drops onto navel and massage it before going to sleep. This will make it convenient to pour and avoid accidental spillage.

You can use mixer grinder as well but dont forget to increase the quantity of urad dal as mentioned in the ingredients list. Grind it till you get a smooth and fluffy batter and empty the batter into a container.  Close the lid and leave it for 8-9 hours or overnight for fermentation. Before using the batter add salt and mix well. Potato filling  Wash and boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker. Once it is cool, peel it and smash it also keep all other ingredients ready.  Take a frying pan, add oil and mustard seeds. Once the mustard starts spluttering add jeera, urad dal, channa dal and cashews one by one. Saute it for a while. When the urad dal turns brown add slit green chilly, grated ginger and curry leaves. Saute it for 5 seconds.  Add turmeric powder and asafoetida and saute it for a while. And then add chopped onions and fry till the onions turn soft.  Now add smashed potato and mix for a while, Once it is mixed add salt and chopped coriander leaves and mix it again. Red Chutney  Roast red chilly and channa dal on medium flame with little oil. Once it is done add shallots / onion and garlic pods and saute it for a minute.  Once it is cool, transfer it to the mixie jar and grind it with tamarind and coconut. The chutney should be thick yet spreadable. Ghee Masala Dosa  Heat a flat pan or a flat non-stick pan. Smear some oil if you are using an iron pan or griddle. Don't smear oil on a non stick pan, as then you won't be able to spread the dosa batter. Spread the dosa batter in a circular way on the pan and close the lid. Wait for 5 seconds and open the lid.  Drizzle some oil /ghee / melted butter (Generally in restuarants they use ghee or butter or oil generously, and that is the reason restuarant masala dosas will be very tasty). Spread the red garlic chutney. Place 2 tbsp of potato filling, fold the dosa in which ever style you want.  Now serve it with either coconut chutney or sambar or both. If you want also with a dollop of butter. Enjoy your luscious dish © The MAGEX Weekly
