1. Location ScoutIn this presentation I will identify potential locations for my magazine photoshoot.
This research will aid me in making a decision on where my photographs will take
place and which genre would work best with them.
2. Studio
The studio would be a good location to take photographs for my magazine,
especially for the front cover image, due to the fact that the background would be
plain; which would mean that I would be able to insert text on top of the image
which would be easy to read for the audience. This location would also mean that
the model will stand out on the page more due to the fact that the costume, hair
and makeup would be increasingly eye-catching – consequently, the reader will be
more likely to buy the magazine (or read the article). Additionally, a studio could
be used for any type of film meaning that, any type of costume, hair and makeup
could be used at this location.
3. Forest or Woods
This location would be ideal for a horror, superhero, drama, thriller or action movie
article as a heavily wooded area is usually included within movies of these genres.
This area can be manipulated to be viewed differently which is why it is a good option
for a range of genres (for example; for a horror movie the forest would be made to
appear dark to increase the danger and eeriness). However, this location may mean
that text could be made increasingly difficult to read if placed over the top of the
image.
4. Bedroom
Bedrooms are a highly popular setting and very usual for romantic comedies and
independent movies. By using this setting the audience would be able to identify the genre
of the movie due to the high use of them on movie posters and advertisements which
would mean that they may be more likely to want to purchase and read the magazine due
to enjoying movies from these genres. Additionally, bedrooms can be used for horror
movies as this is usually where action takes place; if the photograph is edited it can appear
creepy and suit a different –and more popular- genre which could increase my audience
numbers.
5. Car
Cars can be used for most movie genres due to there being many different makes,
models and styles which would affect, and be related to, a different genre once
these have been changed. Also, the age of a car can determine the kind of movie
that appears due to certain movie genres being increasingly popular and usual in
a certain time frame. This location is popular on many different movie genre
posters and advertisements, with the most popular being road trip movies along
side action movies, dramas and independent films.
6. Busy City Centre
A busy city centre is usually incorporated into a superhero movie – which is a popular
movie genre of this generation and specifically with my target audience. This location
could also be used for romantic comedies, independent and action films as they are
normally included in these types of movies also. I would not be likely to use this location
for my front cover image as the city background would be likely to clash with any text
that I was to insert; however, I could use this for my article if I was to fade the image into
a block colour or have a plain in a certain area.
7. Stadium
This location would be more common with football movies however, this genre of movie is not
as popular with my target audience or todays generations. Conversely, I could use a stadium
within many different genres of movie but the audience may not recognise the genre of movie
and therefore be less likely to have a desire to read the magazine. Additionally, this front
cover may attract football fans which is not my aim as not many of them would be included
within my main target audience.
