2. Research on Film Posters and
Magazines
To do my masthead design for my poster and magazine I wanted to create something different then having a
simple font with a range of editing techniques incorporated in it.
I began by doing different types of research to see how film posters and magazines covers design there
masthead.
From doing a bit of research I then found out that when film posters are created it goes according to what the
genre of the film is or colour scheme. This can be slightly different for the magazine cover because everything
has to be in contrast with the issue of the magazine and what they want to show to promote there magazine.
I looked at variety of film posters to see if they have a specific design or font that symbolises or represents the
film.
4. Magazine Film Name Mastheads
When I had looked at a range of different film names which were the main focus on film magazines. To find out
what they looked like I did some research on the more memorable and most read film magazines to find out
how to put the name of our trailer on there, for example: Total Film, Empire, Premiere and more. My final
chosen choice was ‘Total Film’ because they always use a range of creativity to make there cover look really
good.
With there film covers they always have the name of the film in a simple font, for example: Impact, Arial,
Adobe Caslon, Calibri and other simple fonts. This form of technique may have been done because the font
goes well with what type of genre film the magazine issue is representing.
For my magazine I decided to go with the same layout of masthead design as my poster, this is because this
design was my own unique design and it was something different to use instead of a simple font.
