2. SYSTEMS OF THE HUMAN BODY
• Systems are the most complex of the component units of the human body.
10 major systems compose the human body
1. Skeletal system
2. Muscular system
3. Nervous system
4. Endocrine system
5. Cardiovascular system
6. Lymphatic system
7. Respiratory system
8. Digestive system
9. Urinary system
10. Reproductive system
3. SKELETAL SYSTEM
• Humans are vertebrates. Animals having a vertebral column or backbone.
• They rely on a sturdy internal frame that is centred on a prominent spine.
• Human skeletal system consists of bones, cartilage ligaments and tendons and accounts for 20% of the
body weight.
4. NERVOUS SYSTEM
• Major controlling regulatory and communicating system.
• Center of all mental activity including thought, learning and memory.
• Together with endocrine system, the nervous system is responsible for regulating and maintaining
Homeostasis.
3 parts of nervous system:
1. The sympathetic system
2. The para sympathetic system
3. The enteric nervous system
5. NERVOUS SYSTEM
3 types of nerves:
1. Sensory nerves
2. Motor nerves
3. Mixed nerves
Sensory nerves:
Sensory nerves are responsible for sending message to the brain or spinal cord from the sense organs. It’s also called as afferent nerves.
Motor nerves:
Motor nerves are responsible for sending message to the brain or the spinal cord to other parts of the body, such as the muscles or
glands.
Mixed nerves:
It performs the action of sensory nerves and as well as the motor nerves.
