1. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
The Human Body is composed of
five tissue types:
Epithelial
Connective
Muscular
Nervous
Vascular
2. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
An Organ:
Is two or more tissues in functional unity.
Is a somewhat independent part of the
body which performs a special function.
3. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
A system:
Is when two or more organs combine in
such a manner as to exhibit functional
unity.
The are at least nine recognized systems
in the body.
4. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
The nine systems in all human
bodies are:
1. The skeletal system 6. The nervous system
2. The articular system 7. The respiratory system
3. The muscular system 8. The urinary system
4. The digestive system 9. The endocrine system
5. The vascular system
5. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
These nine systems can be further combined
to form three “apparatus” systems of the
human body. They are:
1. The locomotor system
2. The neurosensory system
3. The neuroendocrine system
Note: There are also systems within systems. For current
hearing science learning we will not explore them.
6. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
REMEMBER
Not a single one of these systems is
independent of the other!
7. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
Speech production requires responses
from the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and
the respiratory systems
8. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
Audition/hearing requires responses from
the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and
auditory system/pathways.
9. TISSUES, ORGANS, &
SYSTEMS
It is difficult for one to speak if
one cannot hear.
