2. Why use radio advertising?
Radio targets audiences efficiently because different stations attract different listeners – Kerrang!
listeners are worlds apart from Classic FM listeners etc. This allows advertisers to talk selectively to
the groups they are most interested in.
Radio reaches people at relevant times and places.
Radio trailers are more effective as they
focus on atmosphere and tone as opposed
to the picture
In this contemporary society billions of
people listen to the radio as they travel in
cars, shop, or even listen in the comfort
of their own homes; the audience that
radios reach are huge.
3. What radio stations to use?
The radio station chosen would be one that attracts
our target audience more than another. So if we
were to choose one of our film, given it’s thriller
genre, we wouldn’t choose a station like Classic FM.
The most popular young adult stations are Captial
Fm, some BBC radio stations and Hallam FM; the
ages suited for our film.
4. Conventions of a radio trailer
A voice over, with hints of sound/speech from the film being advertised.
Information about the film such as the certificate.
The films chosen slogan
Sound effects that match the film, when appropriate
A persuasive intel that makes a wide range of audiences want to watch the film.
The radio trailer would be played through various radio stations depending on the subject
of the trailer. All advertisements on a radio are played through a particular station all due
to it’s audience. For example they would not advertise a Disney animation on a radio
station like Kerrang!. Short films however are displayed at small film festivals such as Brief
Encounters and are less likely to be advertised on the radio.
5. Our radio trailer
Following the conventions of radio trailers, our short film radio trailer
will mirror some of these key aspects as we construct them to suit our
film ’Beyond Conscience’.
Using a voice over will enable our audience to hear information about
the film including the storyline and screening locations. We will also
include hints of dialogue taken from the film to encourage the
audience to watch the film, giving them an insight on what to expect.
There will also be information on where to view our film as well as it’s
age rating. The trailer will also include music from our short film in
the background, an identifiable track that people will link with our
film.
