2. I feel that my magazine would attract a similar audience in which buys NME, however I feel as if mine would be more
mainstream. I also can address the fact that there are various gaps in the market for an indie pop media product that
could be aimed at young females. This would be my advantage to access a popularity within the market to enhance the
reputation of my media product.
These are examples which
relate to the same
audience that would
review my product.
3. The following magazines all have acquired target audiences of people who are extremely interested in
music, are any gender and rely on the younger generation. Through the research of these three magazines
I have chosen to target my magazine towards the audience of teenage girls and the mass market of
women who are interested in Indie Pop music. The main images of my magazine are of a young female, this
furthers the appeal to them as it’s a conventional idea that women would read my magazine if a lady was
present on the front. The language in which I have used refers to feminine subjects such as romance within
the music industry and the reasons behind the stereotypical heart broken song names. The colours I used
however are quite unisexual as Orange can be used for any type of gender but I tried delving into making
my media product more female based by the use of the ‘Lane narrow.” font as this comes across as quite
petite and feminine.
4. By trying to appeal to the specific social group in which
I have chosen allows me to grasp different audiences
attention as my magazine can be read by different
generations of people. The effect of my media front
cover is to get my teenager based audience to read it.
The representation of a normal young girl on the front
cover instead of a famous celebrity is to make the
young girls feel more intact with the imagery as if it was
a celebrity they would compare themselves to the
celebrity and point out their flaws. However although
my demographic is aimed at women and young girls, I
have not created the colours to be gender specific and
this allows limitations of readers to become instinct as
various genders will read it and have access to the
content within. The way I conducted my research
about my chosen target audience is I created a
questionnaire about my media product to access what
the target audience of my magazine would like to read
or see within my media product, I conducted questions
about colours, fonts, images and content with this I
received differentiated answers occurring throughout
the survey. Each answer I received I took into count and
this helped edit my magazine to my audiences ideal
read, by doing this I feel as if it really helped in
developing my product to the enjoyment of my
readers.
This is an example of
the Questionnaire
which I gathered
answers from.
5. The questionnaire received quite good responses and this helped further the development of my magazine, the
following graphs represent the results in which I gathered to include as primary research.
The first three questions sum up what type of reader the person answering my questionnaire is this helps
them see if my media product is for them. They are quite basic and just prepare the questioner for the rest of
the survey which requires them to be completely honest about their music choices otherwise their answers
would not help develop my magazine and how it would suit their interests.
6. These are other questions in which I asked
and the survey was complete with non-
bias opinions towards the genre in which I
chose for my media product to be based
on.
The use of this questionnaire and the
results acquire me with the intelligence
and knowledge of what type of target
audience my magazine would encourage
and gives me their perspectives of what
they would want from a magazine.
