4. WHAT IS BEHAVIOR?
Behavior is always the product of two things,
• the nature of individual or organism that behaves
• the nature of situation in which the individual find
himself.
Situation is a source of stimulus and is always the
organism’s response to stimulus from environment.
TYPES OF BEHAVIOR:
1. Respondents behavior – occur automatically and
reflexively.
2. Operant behavior – behavior under conscious
control.
6. USES
• Short duration – 6 to 8 weeks
• Sessions – 4 – 6 up to 12 for severe phobia
• Easy to train and cost effective
• Initial sessions are scheduled daily, last session are
spaced out
7. PRINCIPLES OF BEHAVIORAL THERAPY?
• Classical conditioning model by Ivan Pavlov
(1936)
• Operant conditioning model by BF Skinner(1953)

• Develop nursing process which included behavioral therapy
• All the team members should be aware of the behavioral
modifications
• Confidentiality
• Documentation
• Nurse – patient relationship
