23. • Mass applications
• Spray
• Drinking water
• Individual bird application
• Intramuscular
• Intraocular (Eye drop)
• Intranasal (Nose drop)
• Wing web stab
• Subcutaneous
24. Spray Vaccination
• Can be done at Hatchery or at Farm
• At Hatchery
• To give IB and ND
• Use spray cabinet or hand held spray
• Important point
• Droplet size.
• Use course spray (50-100 microns)
• At Farm
• To give IB H120
• Do not spray directly onto birds but rather at right angle
29. Water Application
• Important points to note here are that the vaccine can be inactivated by:
• Medications
• Chlorine, Heavy metals, Organic matter
• Detergents and disinfectants
• Direct sunlight
• So make sure all this is avoided by:
• Withdrawing all medications, chlorine and disinfectants
• Avoiding direct sunlight
• Vac Safe Tabs
• Use plastic containers when vaccinating
30. How much water to use
• Amount of water= No. of birds X Age of birds in days
1000
Example: For 1000 chicks at 21 days
Water needed= 1000 x 21
1000
= 21 litres
31. Eye drop and Nose drop
• Make sure the vaccine you want to give is suited for these routes.
• Mix the vaccine and diluent. The diluent temperature must be 2-8⁰ C at time
of reconstitution.
• Use syringe to draw diluent and inject into vaccine vial.
• Shake the mixture and place the dosing nozzle.
32. Administering
• The drop must be placed into eye or nasal cavity and get absorbed for
vaccination to be said to be successful.
• NB: WAIT A FEW SECONDS AFTER ADMINISTERING THE DROP
BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE BIRD.
• Divide the contents of the mixed vaccine into some empty bottles so that
you alternate them to avoid the vaccine getting warm in the hands.
• Put those not in use in ice pack which must be near the vaccinator.
34. Wing web vaccination
• Mix vaccine as stated for eye drop
• Administer in the centre of the wing web using wing web applicator.
• Dip the applicator in the vaccine and pierce the web on the underside of the
wing.
• CHANGE NEEDLE AFTER EVERY 500 BIRDS. Used needles can be
disinfected for use again.
• If a blood vessel is punctured, change needle immediately.
40. Before vaccination
• Remove vaccine from fridge and allow it to thaw for 12 hours at least.
• Give the correct amount of dose as stated on the program
• Change needles every 500 birds
42. • Lift the skin of the back of the neck
• Insert the needle facing the body of the bird
• There will be resistance as the needle pass the skin then followed by free
movement. This is where you inject.
45. Breast Muscle
• The needle must be 45⁰ angle to the body.
• Give at the superficial pectoral muscle 3-5cm on the side of the keel bone.
