Ground water
Prepaid by :- sliders
 Agriculture use
 Domestic use
 Industrial use
 Air conditioning or cooling plant
 To get water through bore well in village
 To get a good quality of water
Use of ground water
Sources of ground water
 The following are the important sources of
ground water
1. Wells
2. Spring
3. Infiltration galleries
4. Karez
Terms related to ground water
1. Aquifer
2. Aaquiclude
3. Aquifuge
4. Porosity
5. Specific yield
6. Specific retention
7. Storage coefficient
8. Coefficient of permeability
Aquifer
An aquifer may be
defined as a
geological formation
that contains sufficient
permeable material
which permits storage
as well as movement of
water through it.
Aquiclude
An auiclude may be
defined as a geological
formation that contains
sufficient permeable
material which permits
storage of water but it is
not capable of transmitting
water in sufficient quantity.
Type of Aquifers
1. Unconfined aquifer
2. Confined aquifer
Types of water wells
 Water wells are classified as :
1. Open wells :
Open wells are the wells which
have comparatively large diameters but low
yields and are not very deep.
2. Deep wells :
A deep wells is a well which rest on
impervious layer and draw their supplies from the
pervious formation laying below the impervious
layer.
Types of open wells
Types of tube wells
1. Strainer type tube wells :
It is most common
type and widely used type of tube well such that
the term tube well is general refers only to a
strainer type of tube well.
2. Cavity tube well :
A cavity type tube well consist
of a pipe sunk into the ground and resting on the
bottom of a strong clay layer.
Strainer type tube well
Cavity tube well
Step to increase ground water
1. Supply of water for limited period .
2. Use of water meter system.
3. Provision of penalty for wastage of water.
4. Construction of check dam, khet – talawadi.
5. Tree plantation .
6. Crop rotation
Types of natural recharge
1. Sandy or permeable soil
2. Rocky strata with fractures / Faults
3. Perennial rivers
4. Streams
5. Forest land
6. Comparatively level land
7. Topography suitable for the construction of
artificial recharge structure .
Artificial recharge
The practice of artificially
obstructing the following
rainwater and including
its infiltration to increase
the ground water
reservoir is called
artificial recharge.
Purpose of artificial recharge
1. To increase fertility of soil.
2. To improve quality of existing ground water.
3. To reduce sea-water intrusion.
4. To store the water in the ground.
5. Artificial recharge raise water table.
6. It helps to solve the problems of disposels of
water.
Methods of artificial recharge
1. Flooding method
2. Basin method
3. Artificial channel method
4. Natural channel method
5. Field pit /Khet- talavadi
6. Percolation tank
7. Ponds
8. Check dams
Thank you ……..
