3. About 3000 BC, with the advent of writing, education became more conscious or self-
reflecting, with specialized occupations such as scribe and astronomer requiring
particular skills and knowledge. Philosophy in ancientGreece led to questions of educational
method entering national discourse.

5. INSTRUCTION CENTRE
Person- Teacher centered Instruction-
Educational Essentialism
Educational Perennialism
Main Objective- High Test Scores,
Grades, Graduation
Teaching Method- Traditional education
emphasize-
Direct instruction & lectures
Seatwork
Student learn through listening &
observation
Student & Teacher Relationship- Formal
interaction
MARKING
Grade Inflation/ Deflation-
Achievement based on performance
compared to a reasonably stable,
probably informal standard which is
highly similar to what previous
students experienced.
Communicating with parents- A few
numbers, letters, or words are used to
summarize overall achievement in each
class. Marks may be assigned according
to objective individual performance
or compared to other students
Expectation- Students will graduate
with different grades. Some students
will fail due to poor performance based
on a lack of understanding or
incomplete assignments.
SUBJECT AREA
Mathematics-
Emphasis is on memorization of basic
facts such as the multiplication
table and mastering step-by-step
arithmetic algorithms by studying
examples and much practice.
Science-Fact-based science:
Science class is an opportunity to
transmit concrete knowledge and
specific vocabulary from the teacher
(or textbook) to the students..
Language Learning- Phonics:
The focus is on explicit training in
sound to letter correspondence rules
and the mechanics of decoding
individual words.
6. It’s one of the new method which is not so prevalent among schools
but yes some of the education institutions has identified the need of
changing teaching pedagogy i.e. more student oriented
Give more learning to students, for example- Create a group and
teach the representative of each group which transfer this to others
lead to more leadership quality improvement, managerial skills too.
Place Based Learning-Place-Based Ed takes this all a step further,
with a focus on integrating schools and communities by leveraging
the “power of place” in order to equip–through authentic learning
Project Based Learning
7. Some of the schools has already adopted this teaching methodology like-
St. Mary’s School, Camp-Pune
The Bishop’s School, Kalyani Nagar, Pune
8. Adopt Personalized Learning-The school has adopted the philosophy of
practical learning i.e. multiple form of assessment, feedback and
demonstrations of learning.
Students have some opportunity to work at their own pace & explore their
own interests.
They no more use book as teaching aid. There are many strategies they are
using like stations where they ask 4-5 students to research about some
topic & also give some material.
They learn & understand by their own. Now they stand at 5-6 different
places & other students come to them & listen to them about the topic.
In the end as a big group they come together & share what they learned
from different groups.
9. Teach students in more practical way, example- for reckoning the
concept of photosynthesis- take student to proper labs or near
tree to make them real experience.
This practical approach lead to more meaningful result i.e. inspite
of teaching the concept they should focus on why this concept
came, from where & where it will be applicable is the most
important part of teaching (BackwardApproach)
Knowledge is useless without consistent application- so need to
pondered on how to use it.
Example- Number system, we studied since our childhood but
barely anyone knows where we use it…?? So, teacher should focus
on this perspective more for better outcomes.
10. LIFE Lab in 2013, a social enterprise dedicated to create inclusive classrooms that will make
learning fun and experience-based for children. Lewitt recalls the initial stretch being tough.
He enlisted a cobbler to make the initial models.
With excessive dependence on rote-learning, children graduate but lack employable skills.
The recent Nascomm- Mckinsey survey states that only 25% technical and 15% graduates
are employable in India. ACCII survey concludes that 10% of MBA graduates are suited to be
employed.
Learning is Fun and Experiential (LIFE) Lab is about making school education fun and
engaging, to maximize every child’s potential and bridging the skill gap,
