2. Function Of The Brain
The brain belongs to the nervous system
Controls all motor skills, and sends responses to all messages received by nerves
Cerebrum ,Cerebellum, and hindbrain make up the 3 parts of the brain
Cerebrum controls thought and action
Cerebellum controls coordination, and balance
Brain stem controls breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure
These 3 parts of the brain is what connects us as humans, and separates us as
individuals
3. Grey Matter
Also known as substansia grisea
Grey matter is controlled by nerve cell bodies
Grey matter takes up 40 percent of the brain
The name “Grey matter” originates from the nuclei that
creates the cell
Grey matter does not have a cover over its nerve fibers to
help impulses move faster through each cell
4. White Matter
Also known as substansia alba
Fills 60 percent of the brain
Myelin is responsible for white appearance
Myelin is a mix of protein and phospholipids
Facilitates information processing
5. An Impressive Organ
The brain makes up about two pounds of a persons body weight
Made up of 75 percent water
Fattest organ in the body
There are 100,000 miles of blood vessels in the brain
Your brain grows three times its size within the first birth year
The brain uses 20 percent of your bodies oxygen
Your brain uses enough energy to power a light bulb while conscious
6. An Impressive Organ
The brain can live 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen
Pain cannot be felt by the brain, which is why brain surgeons can perform on
conscious patients
Left side of brain controls right side of body, right side of brain controls left side
of body
7. Fun Facts
You can not tickle yourself because the brain can distinguish from your touch and
someone else's
After 10 minutes after a dream 90 percent is forgotten
If you are snoring you are not dreaming
