1. PLEURISY

2. INTRODUCTION:-
it is a condition in which the pleura — two large, thin layers of
tissue that separate your lungs from your chest wall — becomes
inflamed. Also called pleuritis, pleurisy causes sharp chest pain
(pleuritic pain) that worsens during breathing.

3. DEFINITION:-
“Pleurisy or pleuritis is the inflammation of both
layers of lungs (i.e. partial pleura that is outer layer
and visceral pleura that is inner layer.)”

4. ETIOLOGY:-
Pneumonia
Tuberculosis
Uremia (presence of Uria in blood)
Virus, bacteria
Chest trauma
Pulmonary syndrome.

6. COMPLICATION:-
•Pleural effusion (fluid accumulation in lungs).
•Pneumothorax (air in the chest).

7. DIAGNOSIS:-
History collection
Physical examination.
CBC
Chest x ray
Ultrasonography
Thoracentesis

8. MEDICAL MANAGEMENT:-
•Antibiotics- Augmentin, amikacin
•Analgesic- tramadol.
•NSAID- ibuprofen.
•Pleural tapping- removes abnormal fluid from pleural
cavity.

9. NURSING MANAGEMENT:-
•Advise to take rest.
•Provide comfortable position.
•Advise to take medicine properly.
•Maintain hygiene.
•Take adequate diet as prescribed.
