• As a mother and African American
I think that the U.S maternal
mortality is higher with African
American mothers. This topic
resonates with me because
African American mothers die
every year from complications
related to pregnancy and delivery.
African American mothers have a
higher rate of life-threatening
childbirth complications than
white women.

interest be
applied locally?
This can be applied locally is by raising
an awareness of African American
maternal health.
Building health equity
Healthcare providers should be aware
of their own implicit biases in maternal
care.

How you can make the greatest contribution
is by educating yourself and others about
racial disparities in maternal mortality.
Researching and understanding of the rise in
black maternal mortality and racial health
disparities.
Learn why this problem exists and what are
the situation to prevent African American
Infant and maternal mortality initiative.

• Yes, Social media is a great way
to reach out to others.
Instagram, Facebook and twitter
can do wonders. Social media
has given each of us the
opportunity and the power to
create, share content to
thousands of users in an instant.
This can be applied and educate
others about black maternal
health throughout social media.
