2. Why does it resonate for
me?
I’m currently aiming to be a teacher for children
K-8, and it breaks my heart to know that children
mortality rate even exists! All children should be
given the chance to live their life and become who
they want to be. I have previously wrote a research
paper regarding the low
immunization/vaccination rates for children in
Kenya and how it strongly ties in with their child
mortality rates and concluded that with more ways
to encourage family to vaccinate their children,
mortality rates for children will be lowered. This is
a subject that I’m passionate about. No child
should lose their life before experiencing it and no
family should experience their child dying before
them.
3. How can this interest be applied
locally?
This interest can simply be applied locally if
we spread awareness on the issue and
solutions on how to reduce/solve the issue. The
first step to anything is acknowledging the
issue and thus we can make a change. Such
like matters of BLM, LGBTQ, or Women’s
Rights, there can be peaceful protests or
marches but about child mortality rates in
order to spread this interest locally. Make
matters known and take a stance.
4. Where can I personally make the
greatest contribution?
I can personally make the greatest contribution by using my voice and the power
of social media, which we will focus on in the next slide. By simply using my
voice, I can educate others on important issues, I can spread awareness on what’ s
going on, and that itself can become a great contribution. How can we fight to fix
something if we don’t know what’s going on? My voice can educate and take a
solid stance on what should be done in order to reduce child mortality rates.
5. Is there a feature of social media
that can be uniquely applied to this
goal?
The sharing and posting feature can work wonders for the goal of reducing
child mortality. Like I said before, this issue needs to be known and
acknowledged by more people and the easiest way to accomplish that is
through social media. We can share posts that relate to the issue, we can post
what we have to say, and we can share information.. Social media is a
powerful tool, I mean we see everything on there, such as the George Floyd
video that sparked protests for justice and change everywhere. We have the
power to do that as well for this issue. Not only can we spread awareness, but
we can also educate people through the posting and sharing tool. I can post
and share things about the importance of vaccinating your child as it can
greatly reduce their chances of catching a serious disease that should’ve been
gone a long time ago. During the peak of COVID-19 everyone of my friends
and family were posting pictures of them getting vaccinated and sharing how
everyone should get vaccinated and that did encourage me to do the same.
That’s just the power of social media.
