2. WHY DOES IT RESONATE FOR YOU?
Gender Equality is when people of all genders have equal rights,
responsibilities and opportunities. The main goal of gender equality is
for women and men must enjoy equal opportunities, choices,
capabilities, power and knowledge as equal citizens. Equipping girls
and boys, women and men with the knowledge, values, attitudes and
skills to tackle gender disparities is a precondition to building a
sustainable future for all.
As a women in this society, this topic resonates for me because I
have experienced gender inequality in schooling and may face
inequality in the computer science career field. According to
statistics, women in STEM programs are less likely to obtain a
bachelor’s degree than men.
In addition, there is also a payment gap between women and men
who work the same jobs and positions. Men still earn more than
women at most work forms.
Therefore, gender equality is very important for me and for my
future career going forward.
