2. Why Does This Resonate For
You?
Poverty and world hunger has been a global issue since the beginning of human existence.
Food and shelter should be considered basic human right, however, they are not.
Advocating for this cause is important to me because no one should go without basic
needs, especially when there is enough wealth and resources in the world to eradicate
these problems. As a mother, it is heartbreaking to witness children and families go without
basic needs.
3. How can this be applied
locally?
• Washington state department of social and health services provides emergency relief
such as food, housing, medical, cash assistance and more https://www.dshs.wa.gov/
• The United Way created the nationwide 211 number that provides information and
resources available in your area. Here is a link for 211 Washington
https://wa211.org/about-2-1-1/
• Food pantries are lucrative for people in time of need. Here is a link to find local food
pantries and also volunteer information https://www.foodpantries.org/st/washington
4. Where can you make the greatest
contribution?
• There are many great organizations to get involved with that do their
part in the fight against poverty and hunger. Northwest Harvest in
Washington state is an excellent organization that provides meals and
distributes food all over the state. Through this organization you can
volunteer, make monetary donations, or just simply advocating.

5. Is there a feature of social
media that can be uniquely
applied to this goal?
Crowdfunding, such as gofundme, has become extremely
popular in raising money to help people in need. There are
also many groups on platforms such as Facebook and
Reddit that are more localized in gathering resources for
local communities. There are several mutual aid collective
groups that operate by asking for donations as well as
distributing the donations they receive.
