28. BEAM :
Beam is a flexural member .
Flexural means which support the
bending moment and shear force
due to the over coming load .
It transfers the overcoming load to
the column .
33. TYPES OF SHUTTERING
Two types of shuttering are used in
construction .Mainly used are
following :
1) Wooden shuttering
2) Metal shuttering
Metal shuttering is more safer than
wooden shuttering .
38. SLAB
It is the top most member placed above the column.
After making the walls, slab is placed over it so that
it become a complete bounded area called as room.
It helps to protect the building from seasonal
effects .
Types of slab :
(1) One way slab
(2) Two way slab
(3) Flat slab
(4) Circular slab
48. MASONRY WORK :
Masonry may be of :-
1. brick masonry
2. stone masonry
49. BRICK MASONRY
In this scheme Fly ash bricks are used for brick
masonry work because govt. provide subsidary on it
& it is economical for construction .
English bond is used for wall thickness .this bond
is consider to be stronger.
English bond consists of alternate courses of
headers & stretchers .
52. TYPES OF PLASTER WORK :
1. Lime mortar
2. Cement mortar
3. Lime Cement mortar
53. CEMENT MORTAR :
Cement mortar is best mortar for external
plaster work as it is non - absorbant .
It is also preffered for bathrooms and at the
place of damp climates.
Generally mix proportion (cement : sand) of 1:4
used as per theoritical aspect but practicallly at
site we use plaster mix of 1:6 .
When water is mixed , mortar should be used
within 30 minutes .
M-20 grade of cement is used at site.
56. GROOVES :
Groove introduced in plaster work .
It absorb cracks .
It is necessary to provide grooves in
big buildings so that cracks will not
cause any serious damage in
building .
59. DOORS :
Steel or Iron door frames are used at our site
.
Battened and ledged doors are used at site .
It is the simplest form of the door &
specially suitable for narrow openings.
It provides good circulation for human and
air .
It provide security and privacy .
60. WINDOWS :
It consists of :-
(1) window frame
(2) Sashes or shutter frame
Function of window is to admit light and air to the
room and to give a view to outside .
It also provide insulation against heat loss and in
some cases against sound .
Size ,shape , location and number of windows in a
room depends on utility and location of the room.
72. DRAINAGE SYSTEM:
It is an important part in a building design to
introduce a proper drainage system for building
.
Survey is necessary for proper drainage pipe
alignment .
It is required to maintain a gap after every10
pipes .
the length of gap provided after every 10 pipes is
equal to the length of one pipe.
Proper drainage keeps good sanitary
environment .
78. FLY ASH :
FLY ASH is finely divided residue
resulting from the combustion of
powdered coal and transported by the
flue gases and collected by electrostatic
precipitator.
Fly ash is the most widely used
pozzolanic material in all over world.
79. ADVANTAGES OF FLY ASH BRICKS :
Fly ash bricks are quite cheap .
Easily available from thermal power
plant .
Manufacturing cost is less than the
other bricks .
It requires more curing to gain
strength .
81. AGGREGATE :
Aggregates are mainly of following types according
to shape:
(1) Rounded
(2) Angular
(3) Square
According to size :
(1) Fine aggregate
(2) coarse aggregate
Angular shaped aggregates are used because it
provide good bonding with cement and sand.
82. FINE AGGREGATE :
the aggregate which passes through the 4.75
mm sieve is called fine aggregate .
COARSE AGGREGATE :
The aggregate which retained in 4.75 mm
sieve is called coarse aggregate .
