Brief History
Under the British Rule, Abbottabad was the Headquarters of the Hazara District. Abbottabad got
its name from the founder of the town, Major James Abbott. He founded the town in January
1853 after the invasion of Punjab.
From 1849 to April 1853, Major Abbott was the first Deputy Commissioner of the Hazara district.
Abbottabad became an important military cantonment, in the early 20th century.
Topography: Abbottabad is in the Orash Valley lying between 34°92′N latitude and 73°13′E
longitude at an altitude of 1,256 m (4,121 ft).
Multiple Nuclei Theory
The Multiple Nuclei Model was created in 1945 by Chauncy Harris and Edward Ullman.
The model was based on Concentric Zone Model and Sector Model.
This model explains
1.How the Central Business district was losing importance as a focal point in a relation to the rest
of the city
2.How a city grows from several independent points
3.Also explains how a city formation after the spread of automobile.
Example:
A University may attract libraries and well-educated residents
Applicability on Abbottabad City
