• The oral cavity is the first part of the digestive tract. It
contains the mouth, teeth, gums, the bony roof (hard/ soft
palate), the floor of the mouth (under the tongue), and cheeks
(buccal mucosa). The main function is to begin the process
of digestion.

The oral cavity represents the first part of the digestive tube. Its
primary function is to serve as the entrance of the alimentary
tract and to initiate the digestive process by salivation and
propulsion of the alimentary bolus into the pharynx.
