Award?
Known as the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan in
the vernacular, this award recognizes Filipino artists
that have shown excellence in their mastery of
medium and technique, craftsmanship and
promotion of indigenous beliefs in their practice of
traditional and ethnic art forms in the Philippines
such as pottery, weaving, carving, etc.

7. National Living Treasures Award
The NCCA follows these guidelines in identifying and recognizing a person as a
Manlilikha ng Bayan in the field of folk epic literature, music, textile, and mat
weaving, dance, metal work, and casque production:
ļ¾He or she is an inhabitant of an indigenous/ traditional cultural
community anywhere in the Philippines.
ļ¾He/she must have engaged in a folk art tradition that has been in
existence and documented for at least 50 years.
ļ¾He/she must have consistently performed or produced, over a
significant period, works of superior and distinctive quality.
8. National Living Treasures Award
The NCCA follows these guidelines in identifying and recognizing a person as a
Manlilikha ng Bayan in the field of folk epic literature, music, textile, and mat
weaving, dance, metal work, and casque production:
ļ¾He/she must possess a mastery of tools and materials needed by
the art
ļ¾He/she must pass on and/or will pass on to other members of the
community their skills in the folk art for which the community is
traditionally known.

1. Teofilo Garcia
Garcia was a 2012 awardee from
San Quintin, Abra who invented
the ātabungaw hatā. Tabungaw in
Ilocano refers to the upo
vegetable that this farmer carved
into a hat after drying, hallowing,
polishing, and varnishing.

2. Lang Dulay
Dulay was a 1998 winner from Lake
Sebu, South Cotabato. Since the time
she was 12 until her death in 2015 at
the age of 91, she had been weaving
the designs she saw in her dreams as
a member of the Tāboli tribe, a group of
indigenous people who have come to
be known as the ādream weavers
tribeā for their centuries old tinalak
weaving.
