2. BRIEF
• I have been asked to produce five shots for a poster for the Millennium Gallery in
Sheffield.
• The theme is identity, so I am going theme my identity on a city. This will include the
dark ‘hidden’ side of the city, as well as the more ‘bright’ side people see on a daily
basis.
• The Millennium Gallery has an eco-friendly ethos, so by showing Sheffield (as the
green city) this will live up to the expectation. It also wants people to be able to
consider the past, present and future.
3. CONCEPT
• For my final shoot, I will consider the emotion and effect on a city, showing litter towards the ‘dark
side’ and cleanliness to being a ‘bright’ side which will impact thought on a viewer. The techniques I
will use in my final five photo’s will be:
• Macro (which will bring out the detail in a certain aspect of the shot. I may use a leaf or crack in a
texture to stand out [further going with the eco theme])
• Centre of interest (which will focus the viewer onto a certain object or place. This could be a lone tree
in the city which shows ‘light to the dark side’)
• Depth of field (I will use blur to show cars passing through the streets, this will give the effect of time
being stopped)
• Emotion (I will capture the ‘emotion’ of the city to create the bringing together of the ‘identity’ of the
city, I may try and personify objects for this)
• And Panorama (to provide a broad ‘overview’ of the city, this will be like a timeframe in one shot)
4. TARGET AUDIENCE
• My target audience is aimed towards viewers in their teens or young adult hood. The
reason for this is that with the ‘Yin Yang’ (dark and light) capturing of the city, it may
impact this demographic to consider their actions on a wider scale (e.g considering
throwing litter away rather than throwing it on the floor). The audience would be
aimed equally to both the male and female gender to impact a wider audience. The
demographic of my audience would also be ABC1 but may also contain D when
capturing the ‘poorer’ sides of the city.
5. KEY MILESTONES
• Planning -: Finish at the beginning to middle of January;
• Taking the Photographs -: Review the tester shots to see if any are good enough, if not
complete by the middle of February;
• Editing the final selection of photographs -: Late February towards March.
• Launch Date -: Early to Middle of March
6. EQUIPMENT
• The equipment I will need will include:
• A tripod – For steady shots
• A DSLR Camera – For taking the photos
• A class 10 SD card – For storing the photographs
• Photo editing software (photoshop) – To edit the final photographs
7. PROPS AND MODELS
• In my identity theme of ‘city’ I will not need any props or models, for I will be using
publically available features to photograph in my shoot
8. HEALTH AND SAFETY
• I will recce the areas before hand to test for problems which could effect my or others
wellbeing. I will also be checking for problems which could effect equipment as well.
The Areas I have recce’d will be on another blog post.
• Risk assessment forms will provide the photographer (me) of potential risks and
dangers when out photographing, as well as provide detailed information on what to
do should one of these risks occur. I will need to complete a single risk assessment for
my wellbeing when shooting in the city.
• All of my areas are public, and allow me to be local to facilities as well as others should
and problem occur.
9. LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES
• Copyright – Copyright claims could occur should I photograph people without their
permission or private objects. Luckily I don’t intent to capture any person directly, or
photograph on private land meaning no copyright claims should occur.
• Model release – As I only need camera based equipment no model is necessary.
• Public Land – All of my photographs will be shot in public locations and will not
directly contain any person. This is fortunate as it means I won’t need to generate a
permission form for them.
• Misinterpretation – If somebody claims that my work represents something negative or
offensive in my photograph, I will take a look into their claim and ensure that nothing
bad can be portrayed. If it can I will remove the photo and use another one.
10. CONTINGENCIES
• My back up location for photographing would be my home village of Bessacarr should
a problem occur with me photographing Sheffield. I shouldn’t have a problem
however, as I have planned my shoot.
• If the weather is unexpected, may refrain from shooting until a day when the weather
is correct. If no time comes, I may result to editing the correct weather in later or
choosing a different place to shoot.
• If the DSLR runs out of battery then I will use my backup battery as suggested in my
planning. If I can’t end up using a battery or camera, I will result in using my GoPro
HERO 3+ or iPhone 6+ as a backup method
