Pre-Production
Pre-production Assessment
Location 1
• The first location seen in my TV advertisement for the mountain bike will be my
own home (Bubwith). It will act as the home for my rider of choice and where he
will prep for going for a ride. We the audience will be able to see mainly the door
on the first floor and the front garden. Also, possibly the street might be seen in
some shots too.
Location 2
• The second location seen will be where Moxby Lane joins Stillington Road. The
shot will be a tracking shot of the actor in the van driving past. I’m planning on
standing on the corner of Moxby Lane and filming the actor driving through the s-
bend.
Location 3
• The third location seen will be Yearsley woods as this will be where the chosen
rider will be riding. I have a few ideas of where in the woods, but I need to do a
recce and see what trails in the woods would be best for filming. I have included a
picture below of one part of a trail that I want to use in my advertisement.
Equipment
Equipment Reason
Camera To film every shot that I would like to take.
Tripod The tripod will be used for shots like tracking shots, pans, or
stood still shots as it will be the best piece of equipment to
enable smooth movement as well as keeping the camera
dead still.
Shoulder Rig The shoulder rig will be used for shots that will involve
movement, not too much walking, maybe a step or two but
it’ll come in really handy when it comes to tracking shots
and whip pans on uneven surfaces like a hill.
SD Card & Spare
Battery
The SD card is used for capturing the videos, each day I will
film I’ll end it by taking all clips off the SD card and onto my
PC and then back them up in multiple places. The spare
battery will be taken to locations as each filming day will be
very long so there would be a chance of one battery not
holding enough charge
Rode
Microphone
The Rode microphone will be used on the camera as I’m not
planning on having any additional music or sound effects for
my project, the natural audio will be very important so
having a good microphone to pick it up will help a lot.
Tascam
Microphone
The Tascam will be used for being placed next to the trail so
that I can capture audio further away from the camera that I
maybe wouldn’t have been able to with just one
microphone.
Facilities
• All the facilities that I’ll be using will be used at college. I know that I will definitely be using
Premiere Pro, but I’d also like to maybe try and figure out how to use After Effects. As I don’t
know how to use it at all, but seems as if it holds some potential for my project and could
allow me to improve the technical side of my project, I’m hoping if I have the time, I will try
and learn some techniques on the software to use for my TV advertisement. I’m also going to
be using Photoshop for the print side of my project. I’m planning on creating an
advertisement poster and simply photography pieces so Photoshop will be the the obvious
choice for when it comes to creating these sides of my project. I am starting to get a grasp of
how to use photoshop but still have only a basic understanding. I’m hoping again that
through this project, my understanding and skill level with this software will improve and
allow me to add higher and more technical skills to my project.
Personnel
• The only personnel involved with the project will be:
• Dan Richardson; director, writer, camera operator and editor
• Mark Richardson; Actor, stuntman and facilitator of transport
I, Dan Richardson the head of the project, will be writing the script for the TV advertisement of
the new mountain bike made by Trek, as well as that I will be directing it, filming everything so
that includes cinematography too, I’ll also be editing so that too involves colouring. I’ve decided
to take on a challenge of doing it all myself as I feel as if I have enough knowledge to take on all
aspects of this project with confidence and it will give me the basic experience of job roles I’m
very interested in.
My father, Mark Richardson, is also a very keen mountain biker which means I have an
experienced rider riding for my product, plus it will help when it comes to having to do multiple
takes of one shot as he will enjoy the riding. Working off that, because he enjoys riding and that’s
what he’ll be doing for me in my project, he will be willing to drive me to the locations that I want
to go to to film.

Layout Plans
I feel as if the combination of text size, title size and photo type will be a very good fit for a poster
used for an advertisement scheme for a new bike. It creates these three stages of the poster that
helps draw in the audience into the advertisement. The first stage would be the large picture of
the bike and rider that completely covers the whole piece of paper. It will be the first part of the
poster that the audience sees and draws them in, next being the title of the bike being the “TREK
Siren” in the bottom left and then the information about the bike being above the title in a much
smaller font. I chose the font colour as a slightly grey white because of the type of photo I’d like
to use for this poster, I’d like to use a speed blur for this type of poster, and because of the colour
of trees being a very dark green as we can see in the used photo, the speed blur creates a very
dark green background, so this greyish white helps pop the letters out of the background and
allows the audience to read the text easily, and the slight grey in the colour just stops it from
being a boring white. I’d also like to have take my own picture having the rider doing a very
similar manoeuvre as, just at first glance, it just looks like a well planned photograph of a
mountain biker, but if it was used strategically for a mountain bike advert, it would work really
well as it gives a very good view of the bike whilst it’s being ridden in an appealing way to the
target audience, for example on my own thew rider could be riding a steep section or like this
picture used doing a jump. I would have liked to of used a font that I would like to use but I don’t
have the availabilities to do that at the moment whilst not being able to use adobe software at
home.
I believe that having such a large image at the top will be a very good start to drawing in the
audience into the poster and reading more. Like the last, I’ve designed the layout to have steps
which increasingly pulls in the target audience. First being the large picture of the bike in what is
seen in the mountain bike world as a very impressive trick. Then having the slip to a coloured
background with the name of the brand and bike being in very large font acts as the next step,
just bringing the audience in that bit further and increasing their interest in the poster and what
it’s about. The next and final step is having the information about the bike to the right of the
name of the brand and bike and in a smaller font to fit more text in. Although it’s the smallest
part of the poster and the last bit that the audience will probably notice, it’s the most important
bit. This is because it’s the part of the add that will provide all the selling points of the bike to the
audience. It provides the information that influences the personnel choice of each audience
member on whether they want to buy the product being advertised or not. But because it’s a
smaller chunkier piece of text, at first, it doesn’t seem that interesting so that’s why you use
steps like the large photo to draw the audience in and I believe that this layout would work in this
way very effectively. I chose the pink as it’s a very ‘different’ colour for mountain biking, but
because this bike that’s being advertise is supposed to be different from other bikes and is built
to facilitate being different, I feel as if it works rather well. The choice of the white for some of
the text was because the white with the pale pink fits nicely and allows the text to be easily read.
But I chose to have the name of the bike, “siren” in a black to just keep adding to the whole idea
of standing out. As the text and colour is already standing out, I wanted to make the name stand
out even further.
Looking back at first poster design that I sketched. Because I’ve sketched with a plain pencil, I
haven’t had the opportunity to envision this, or the other sketched design in colour, but I have
basic ideas. With this design I’ve decided instead of having one main aspect of the poster design
to draw in the target audience, with this poster design I decided to make it with two. One being
the photo of the bike and the other working off of the design of the title. As I’ve decided to name
the bike a “Siren”, I’d like to play off of both meanings to the word, one being like an alarm and
then other, and the more importantly the mythic creature, the mermaid creature that would lure
in sailors and then kill them. The dangerous creature was the part that influenced the design for
the title of the bike on that poster design. I feel as if the positioning of the picture of the bike and
the title paired with the size of them both I feel as if neither of them over power the other and
equally share the spotlight on the poster. After the title and then the picture of the bike pulling in
the audience, their eyes then move onto the smaller text which would be the part where the
audience will get the information to help decide whether they want to buy the bike or not.
I decided with this poster design, that I was going to go back to a bit more of a simple design, but
just use the choice of pictures and colours to my advantage. For this design, if you can’t
completely tell by the design, my idea would be to try and capture a picture of the bike in front of
the sea, working with the idea of the bike being named after the mythical creature. Not only
would the bike be shown in front of the sea, but id darken and slightly grey the photo to make it
look dark, brooding and maybe even dangerous, like the mythical creatures that the name is
based off of. I decided too to keep the text design to stay very simple too, almost placed in the
shape of a box. Again with the title of the brand and bike name being the bigger part of the text
allowing the smaller text to slot in between the two words, being the brand and bike name.
Again, I staggered the features of the poster to try and effectively draw the audience into the
smaller sized text to try and sell the audience the bike.
Props/Costume/etc
• Props will be:
• Trek Slash
• Giro Chronicle helmet
• Muc-off jersey black
• Fox Yellow Shorts
OR
• Decathlon Grey Trousers
• 5:10 freerider shoes
• White socks
• High 5 bottle
I’ve chosen my costume for my character with consideration with what colours will be seen on the screen. My
idea is that the bike that I’m advertising will facilitate enjoyment in the average mountain bike scene. Its idea is to
be ridden with speed, skill and enjoyment. So, I want the costume to still fit with the normal aesthetic style of
mountain bikers, but I want certain bits to have a bit of flare to acknowledge this side of enjoyment and
excitement. So with the choice of helmet, I chose to just use my dad’s normal helmet, it just follows the normal
style of mountain bikers' helmets, but you get to the top. It has same again, the normal mountain bike aesthetic
style, a simple colour on a simple jersey but it has this very fitting flare, on the chest and down the back it has this
hot pink pattern that fits the idea of the bike, it has this stand out aspect whilst still fitting in, it’s not obnoxiously
glaring, it fits with the aesthetic style of mountain bike clothing whilst letting the rider stand out that just bit
more. I haven’t fully decided what my character will be wearing on the bottom, but I have picked out two options,
very different, but two definite options that I will use. The shorts obviously help with my idea of the character
matching the idea of the bike, they are a very bold colour, a very bright yellow that can’t help but make anyone
wearing them stand out. The only thing is with these shorts is that I feel as if they’re too bold for my idea, I don’t
want the character to be unbelievably bold coloured, which I feel as if the shorts paired with the jersey would
maybe create that feeling. So I also picked these trousers, they same again fit with the usual style of mountain
biking clothes, but it has aspects that that fit with this style of bike, it has little features that a coloured bright
orange which again, has the small stand out features that the bike will try and facilitate in the riders riding. Plus, it
fits the style of trousers that are typically seen worn by riders that would ride the bike I will be advertising. My
idea with the white socks is because white socks have become a common style of not only mountain bikers but
people on the street, the idea is to add a little more to bright colours to outfits and add more, “flare”, to people's
outfits and I’d like to use that little touch to my characters outfit, and I feel as if it would work effectively for my
character. The shoes and bottle chosen for my character to use were chosen to finish off the classic “mountain
biker” aesthetic style. The shoes are a very classic chosen shoe by mountain bikers, 5:10 are a very big mountain
bike shoe brand, probably the biggest now even being owned by adidas, so choosing these shoes to be worn by
my character.
Why I chose the costume and props:
Sound Effects/Music
• For my project, I’m not planning on having any music at all, my idea is to try and capture
the audio as best as possible and even enhance it to increase the feeling of speed. My
plan is to use more than one microphone when on location to capture the audio far
enough away from the camera that the microphone on the camera wouldn’t be able to
capture. To do so when both the camera and Tascam, the handheld audio recorder, or
both recording, I will need to somehow create a large sound that will obviously show on
the audio allowing me to sync them together easily in post. But I’m hoping to have
some parts with comedic aspects too, so the use of sound effects could be very helpful,
I could copy the use of sound effects in films such as “The Dead Don’t Die”. The use of
sound effects in that film for comedy is probably a rather easy way, the sound effects
were purposefully chosen to not fit with what’s happening on screen. For example,
when a small electric car enters the frame, they chose to use a sound effect for some
sort of rocket. I’m contemplating using sound effects in the same way for comedic
effect but, if I chose my sound effects correctly, they could also fit with what’s
happening on screen rather well. For example, if I had a shot with the rider on the bike
coming almost directly towards the camera at high speed, say a sound effect of a
formula one car or some sort of race car would help with comedic effect but will fit with
the fact that the rider and the bike were travelling very fast.
Sound Effects/Music
• But on the other hand, I've had the idea that if I have the time to create a different
version of the advert with music. I’d like to use all the same shots, almost definitely
in the same order too but there would be some differences beside the opposite
being the added music, I’d like to try and add extra aspects being cutting the shots
in time with the music. I’m not entirely sure how I would layer the music and audio
from the clips, I feel as if I wouldn’t want the music to completely overpower the
audio from the shots and not be able to hear the original audio. I’d like to have a
flattering combination of music paired with the raw sound of the bike being
ridden.
• I’d like to use a song like Monolith by Holograms or Fell In Love With a Girl by The
White Stripes as I feel as if they would fit really well with the idea of the bike, it’s
these songs are very upbeat and fast paced which contributes to the
advertisement trying to get the bike across as fast and almost aggressive.
Script Copy
TREK SIREN ADVERT SCRIPT
The advert will open up with an animated version of the of the trek logo and then cut to black.
Fading from black into a shot from behind of the actor, the actor will walk through a darkened corridor,
picking up his helmet and moving towards an open door in front of him to create a silhouette and as he
walks, the camera will follow. Then cutting to a shot from outside the house with the actor stepping out
of the house, walking to his van, placing his helmet in the back with the bike, shutting the back doors
and getting in the front of the van. Transitioning from home to woods, a shot of the van driving through
a fast section of road will be used. Arriving at the woods, the camera facing the back of the van, facing
into the woods, the actor will leave the front of the van, open the back doors and pull the bike out for a
very short cut to black. It will only be black for maybe something like 3 or 4 frames.
Onto the riding parts of the advert, to transfer onto the bike it will be start with a close up of the rear
tire to transfer from the cut to black, the rider will ride away from the camera with the camera panning
up to keep the bike and actor in the centre of the frame. Cutting to a shot of the rider riding directly
towards the camera, then a close up of the actor dropping the seat post and back to the same angle as
the last shot for the rider to ride into a trail left of frame. To pick up the pace, the next couple of shots
will be the actor at fast pace going through a section of multiple corners with 2 shots to break it up.
Moving onto a steeper section of track, the actor will ride through it at pace and towards the camera,
and then another time with the camera to the side so that in post, the shot will be slowed down to allow
the audience to view the suspension in slow-motion. Adding to the fast pace, the rider will be captured
going through one fast section and then a not so fast but steep section both being captured with wide
angles.
To prove the bike can do everything and to change the pace very quickly to keep the audience engaged,
it will cut to a completely stationary + wide angle shot the actor climbing the bike up a very steep hill. To
bring the pace back very quickly, it’ll cut to a very small length shot of the rider at high speed. Like yoyo
effect, after the very fast clip, it will slow back down for the rider doing a jump and then speed back up
for the actor going straight towards the camera. To slow it slightly down, the rider will do a section that
involves a drop and some tight corners, so when it really slows down again, it’s not really abrupt.
Because the next few shots create this montage of the rider finishing a steep section of trail and going
into a climb. Adding to the advertisement side of the montage, it’ll involve a close up of the gears being
used. Picking the pace back up, with a fast and rough section of a trail and then into a technical and
slower section, to try and keep some pace, this one section that is technically difficult, it’ll be broken up
into 2 shots. To then finish off the riding segment, It’ll be 2 shots breaking up a very steep section of
trail, firsts shot being from the top at a low angle, so the rider disappears into the steep section and the
other being from the bottom looking up to increase the feeling of steepness.
To finish off the advert it’ll be a long shot of the rider going through a long section of trail shot from very
far away and then cut into a shot on top of a viewing area with the bike stood on top.

Locations
Location 1: Bubwith
As the first Location is my home, as well as the actor’s home too, obviously we’ll already be on location. Because of the
fact we’re already there, it’ll be the first location that we’ll be shooting on. It’d be available to shoot on all day long but
ideally, I’ll want to shoot when the sun is low in the sky to make it seem as if it’s early in the day as it’ll be at the start of
the advert. I’ll hope to finish shooting around eight o’clock to nine o’clock which’ll give us a lot of time to get to the next
two locations and give us a lot of time to film the riding shots. All access to water, food and a toilet can be done on
location, as it’s a house.

Location 2: Moxby Lane
Moving onto the second location of my project, where moxby lane joins stillington road. Me as well as the actor will be
reaching this location at the same time, that being as close as we can be to half 9 o’clock. As it’s a completely public road,
there’ll be no need to try and gain any permission. One downside to filming in this location is that it’s kind of in the
middle of places with no real close places to access water, food or a toilet. Luckily for me and my actor, the shot that I
want to capture in this location will be a small and easy shot to get, so it shouldn’t require much time on location. But on
the off chance that it somehow takes a lot longer than I anticipate and me or the actor needs, food, drink, water or the
toilet, it makes sense for us both to bring food and water to location to save time and money. But the toilet situation will
require some travelling, the nearest place that could facilitate a toilet for either me or the actor is The Rose & Crown Pub
in Sutton-on-the-Forest. A nearby Equestrian shop can be used for the address as it’s right next to the junction – YO61
1EH
VAN
Location 2: Yearsley Forest
Moving onto the third location of my project, Yearsley woods is where most of my filming will take place. I’ve chosen
Yearsley as it’s the place that me and the actor rides the most, so that has two benefits, one being that I know a lot of
good places for me to film already and two being that as my actor has ridden there the most, especially recently, it means
it’s the place where he’ll feel most comfortable riding at speed as he’ll know it better than some of the other places that I
could have possibly chosen. Again, as the actor is actually the one driving us to the locations, we’ll be arriving at the same
time, that being as close as we can get to 10 o’clock. Like the last location, same again Yearsley Forest is kind of in the
middle two villages with not any nearby facilities that don’t require at least a bit of travelling to get too. Myself and the
actor will have to arrive on location prepared for a whole day of riding and filming with enough food and drink, which we
can either bring into the wood with us or, the most likely and easier option to do and the one we’ll probably pick, leaving
the food and drink in the van at the car park as we won’t be very far from them. But we will also have a bottle each to
bring with us into the forest. I know it’s not the nicest option, but probably the easiest option for when someone will
need the toilet is to go off the trail or path into a less seen part of the woods. But here will be an option provided for
actual toilets, they’re just not as easy to access. They’ll be located at the nearby pub, The Fairfax Arms located in Gilling
just outside the forest – YO62 4JH. There could be a problem of the car park that I intend to use, the one closest to
Yearsley Village, being too busy to not just film there for the shots of the actor getting the bike out of the van, but even to
just park there, so there are two other places that I know where me and the actor could park. One being on the same
road as The Fairfax Arms and another being at the top of the drive of the house – Windygates House- as that is actually
another car park for Yearsley Forest.
I won’t be making any layouts for Yearsley forest as there way too many shots to show the layout of, plus there are factors
that could change the layout of my shot that couldn’t change the whole shot, but just the original layout.

WEEK 1
Monday After having collected all my shots and photos
needed for post-production, I will collect them from
google drive which is where I’ll store them so that I
can access them at home and in college. I’ll then
make a start on the base of assembling where I want
each shot in the video's timeline, which hopefully
will only take one lesson, and then make a start on
editing them too the length I want.
Tuesday Tuesday I’ll collect all my audio clips from google
drive, again that is where the will be stored. I’ll then
take them into premiere pro and sync them with all
the video clips and cut them to the length that I
want.
Wednesday On Wednesday, I’ll have the whole advert
assembled, and my plan will be to create the
animated logo for the entry, change any colour
grading that I want and any effects that I’d like, for
example slow-motion.
WEEK 2
Monday I will start by exporting all my images off of google
drive as that’s where they’ll be stored so I can access
them anywhere. And I will start by choosing two
photos that I want to use for a poster and two for
just photography pieces. If I get all four edited by the
end of the day, I’ll make a start by taking one of the
two for the posters and start creating a poster. I can’t
imagine I will.
Tuesday Tuesday will only be for creating the two posters, I’ll
follow the layout designs I have created, use the
chosen colour schemes and fonts and create the
advertisement posters for the bike. I feel as if I will
definitely be able to create both posters in one day
as long as I don’t come across any problems.
Wednesday Wednesday will be for finishing editing the photos
for the the photography pieces, I’ll be changing
colouring as well as removing any unwanted parts of
the photos. I’ll also go back to the posters to make
any wanted improvements if I have the time left.
WEEK 3
Monday If I am on schedule, which I should be as long as no
major problems occur, Monday will be for collecting
peer and self feedback, I will take notes on my own
thoughts and others in a word document and create
ways that I could improve on the feedback.
Tuesday Tuesday will be for taking these suggested
improvements and start applying them to my
products. Ideally the Tv advert first as out of the
products I’ll be making it’s the moist important.
Wednesday Wednesday will be designated for finishing off any
suggested improvements. Once completed, I will
then take time to look back and compare the new
improved products to the older not improved
versions and see whether there are any parts that I
feel as if works better in the original.
WEEK 4
Monday Week four will be for finishing off any parts of the
products that I would like to do. That could be
finishing the suggested improvements or reverting
improvements back to the original or just finishing
certain techniques for a product.
Tuesday Tuesday will be just for finishing off all the products.
Wednesday Wednesday will be just for finishing off all the
products.

Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Cast Member could crash whilst riding the bike. Make sure the cast member is confident with
riding how I want them to, and if they’re not,
change certain ideas to allow him to feel more
confident. As well as that I will check all his
safety gear is being worn properly.
Another rider could hit me, gear or the rider as
they are public gear.
Either close of trails that I can, or make a sign
for the top of trails. That I will be filming on for
other riders to know we’re on that at trail and
to be cautious.
I could trip on uneven ground. I will make sure to be careful of where I am
standing and to watch the ground in front of me
when I’m walking.
Eye Strain from screen. Take regular breaks from the screen and
remember to wear my glasses.
Back ache from sitting too long. Take regular breaks, walk around during breaks
and sit with as beast a posture that I can have.
Head ache from screen Same again, regular breaks from the screen,
possibly bring pain killers with me to college
and remember to wear my glasses

3. Pre-Production (1).pptx

  • 3. Location 1 • The first location seen in my TV advertisement for the mountain bike will be my own home (Bubwith). It will act as the home for my rider of choice and where he will prep for going for a ride. We the audience will be able to see mainly the door on the first floor and the front garden. Also, possibly the street might be seen in some shots too.
  • 4. Location 2 • The second location seen will be where Moxby Lane joins Stillington Road. The shot will be a tracking shot of the actor in the van driving past. I’m planning on standing on the corner of Moxby Lane and filming the actor driving through the s- bend.
  • 5. Location 3 • The third location seen will be Yearsley woods as this will be where the chosen rider will be riding. I have a few ideas of where in the woods, but I need to do a recce and see what trails in the woods would be best for filming. I have included a picture below of one part of a trail that I want to use in my advertisement.
  • 6. Equipment Equipment Reason Camera To film every shot that I would like to take. Tripod The tripod will be used for shots like tracking shots, pans, or stood still shots as it will be the best piece of equipment to enable smooth movement as well as keeping the camera dead still. Shoulder Rig The shoulder rig will be used for shots that will involve movement, not too much walking, maybe a step or two but it’ll come in really handy when it comes to tracking shots and whip pans on uneven surfaces like a hill. SD Card & Spare Battery The SD card is used for capturing the videos, each day I will film I’ll end it by taking all clips off the SD card and onto my PC and then back them up in multiple places. The spare battery will be taken to locations as each filming day will be very long so there would be a chance of one battery not holding enough charge Rode Microphone The Rode microphone will be used on the camera as I’m not planning on having any additional music or sound effects for my project, the natural audio will be very important so having a good microphone to pick it up will help a lot. Tascam Microphone The Tascam will be used for being placed next to the trail so that I can capture audio further away from the camera that I maybe wouldn’t have been able to with just one microphone.
  • 7. Facilities • All the facilities that I’ll be using will be used at college. I know that I will definitely be using Premiere Pro, but I’d also like to maybe try and figure out how to use After Effects. As I don’t know how to use it at all, but seems as if it holds some potential for my project and could allow me to improve the technical side of my project, I’m hoping if I have the time, I will try and learn some techniques on the software to use for my TV advertisement. I’m also going to be using Photoshop for the print side of my project. I’m planning on creating an advertisement poster and simply photography pieces so Photoshop will be the the obvious choice for when it comes to creating these sides of my project. I am starting to get a grasp of how to use photoshop but still have only a basic understanding. I’m hoping again that through this project, my understanding and skill level with this software will improve and allow me to add higher and more technical skills to my project.
  • 8. Personnel • The only personnel involved with the project will be: • Dan Richardson; director, writer, camera operator and editor • Mark Richardson; Actor, stuntman and facilitator of transport I, Dan Richardson the head of the project, will be writing the script for the TV advertisement of the new mountain bike made by Trek, as well as that I will be directing it, filming everything so that includes cinematography too, I’ll also be editing so that too involves colouring. I’ve decided to take on a challenge of doing it all myself as I feel as if I have enough knowledge to take on all aspects of this project with confidence and it will give me the basic experience of job roles I’m very interested in. My father, Mark Richardson, is also a very keen mountain biker which means I have an experienced rider riding for my product, plus it will help when it comes to having to do multiple takes of one shot as he will enjoy the riding. Working off that, because he enjoys riding and that’s what he’ll be doing for me in my project, he will be willing to drive me to the locations that I want to go to to film.

  • 20. I feel as if the combination of text size, title size and photo type will be a very good fit for a poster used for an advertisement scheme for a new bike. It creates these three stages of the poster that helps draw in the audience into the advertisement. The first stage would be the large picture of the bike and rider that completely covers the whole piece of paper. It will be the first part of the poster that the audience sees and draws them in, next being the title of the bike being the “TREK Siren” in the bottom left and then the information about the bike being above the title in a much smaller font. I chose the font colour as a slightly grey white because of the type of photo I’d like to use for this poster, I’d like to use a speed blur for this type of poster, and because of the colour of trees being a very dark green as we can see in the used photo, the speed blur creates a very dark green background, so this greyish white helps pop the letters out of the background and allows the audience to read the text easily, and the slight grey in the colour just stops it from being a boring white. I’d also like to have take my own picture having the rider doing a very similar manoeuvre as, just at first glance, it just looks like a well planned photograph of a mountain biker, but if it was used strategically for a mountain bike advert, it would work really well as it gives a very good view of the bike whilst it’s being ridden in an appealing way to the target audience, for example on my own thew rider could be riding a steep section or like this picture used doing a jump. I would have liked to of used a font that I would like to use but I don’t have the availabilities to do that at the moment whilst not being able to use adobe software at home.

  • 22. I believe that having such a large image at the top will be a very good start to drawing in the audience into the poster and reading more. Like the last, I’ve designed the layout to have steps which increasingly pulls in the target audience. First being the large picture of the bike in what is seen in the mountain bike world as a very impressive trick. Then having the slip to a coloured background with the name of the brand and bike being in very large font acts as the next step, just bringing the audience in that bit further and increasing their interest in the poster and what it’s about. The next and final step is having the information about the bike to the right of the name of the brand and bike and in a smaller font to fit more text in. Although it’s the smallest part of the poster and the last bit that the audience will probably notice, it’s the most important bit. This is because it’s the part of the add that will provide all the selling points of the bike to the audience. It provides the information that influences the personnel choice of each audience member on whether they want to buy the product being advertised or not. But because it’s a smaller chunkier piece of text, at first, it doesn’t seem that interesting so that’s why you use steps like the large photo to draw the audience in and I believe that this layout would work in this way very effectively. I chose the pink as it’s a very ‘different’ colour for mountain biking, but because this bike that’s being advertise is supposed to be different from other bikes and is built to facilitate being different, I feel as if it works rather well. The choice of the white for some of the text was because the white with the pale pink fits nicely and allows the text to be easily read. But I chose to have the name of the bike, “siren” in a black to just keep adding to the whole idea of standing out. As the text and colour is already standing out, I wanted to make the name stand out even further.

  • 24. Looking back at first poster design that I sketched. Because I’ve sketched with a plain pencil, I haven’t had the opportunity to envision this, or the other sketched design in colour, but I have basic ideas. With this design I’ve decided instead of having one main aspect of the poster design to draw in the target audience, with this poster design I decided to make it with two. One being the photo of the bike and the other working off of the design of the title. As I’ve decided to name the bike a “Siren”, I’d like to play off of both meanings to the word, one being like an alarm and then other, and the more importantly the mythic creature, the mermaid creature that would lure in sailors and then kill them. The dangerous creature was the part that influenced the design for the title of the bike on that poster design. I feel as if the positioning of the picture of the bike and the title paired with the size of them both I feel as if neither of them over power the other and equally share the spotlight on the poster. After the title and then the picture of the bike pulling in the audience, their eyes then move onto the smaller text which would be the part where the audience will get the information to help decide whether they want to buy the bike or not.
  • 25.
  • 26. I decided with this poster design, that I was going to go back to a bit more of a simple design, but just use the choice of pictures and colours to my advantage. For this design, if you can’t completely tell by the design, my idea would be to try and capture a picture of the bike in front of the sea, working with the idea of the bike being named after the mythical creature. Not only would the bike be shown in front of the sea, but id darken and slightly grey the photo to make it look dark, brooding and maybe even dangerous, like the mythical creatures that the name is based off of. I decided too to keep the text design to stay very simple too, almost placed in the shape of a box. Again with the title of the brand and bike name being the bigger part of the text allowing the smaller text to slot in between the two words, being the brand and bike name. Again, I staggered the features of the poster to try and effectively draw the audience into the smaller sized text to try and sell the audience the bike.

  • 29. I’ve chosen my costume for my character with consideration with what colours will be seen on the screen. My idea is that the bike that I’m advertising will facilitate enjoyment in the average mountain bike scene. Its idea is to be ridden with speed, skill and enjoyment. So, I want the costume to still fit with the normal aesthetic style of mountain bikers, but I want certain bits to have a bit of flare to acknowledge this side of enjoyment and excitement. So with the choice of helmet, I chose to just use my dad’s normal helmet, it just follows the normal style of mountain bikers' helmets, but you get to the top. It has same again, the normal mountain bike aesthetic style, a simple colour on a simple jersey but it has this very fitting flare, on the chest and down the back it has this hot pink pattern that fits the idea of the bike, it has this stand out aspect whilst still fitting in, it’s not obnoxiously glaring, it fits with the aesthetic style of mountain bike clothing whilst letting the rider stand out that just bit more. I haven’t fully decided what my character will be wearing on the bottom, but I have picked out two options, very different, but two definite options that I will use. The shorts obviously help with my idea of the character matching the idea of the bike, they are a very bold colour, a very bright yellow that can’t help but make anyone wearing them stand out. The only thing is with these shorts is that I feel as if they’re too bold for my idea, I don’t want the character to be unbelievably bold coloured, which I feel as if the shorts paired with the jersey would maybe create that feeling. So I also picked these trousers, they same again fit with the usual style of mountain biking clothes, but it has aspects that that fit with this style of bike, it has little features that a coloured bright orange which again, has the small stand out features that the bike will try and facilitate in the riders riding. Plus, it fits the style of trousers that are typically seen worn by riders that would ride the bike I will be advertising. My idea with the white socks is because white socks have become a common style of not only mountain bikers but people on the street, the idea is to add a little more to bright colours to outfits and add more, “flare”, to people's outfits and I’d like to use that little touch to my characters outfit, and I feel as if it would work effectively for my character. The shoes and bottle chosen for my character to use were chosen to finish off the classic “mountain biker” aesthetic style. The shoes are a very classic chosen shoe by mountain bikers, 5:10 are a very big mountain bike shoe brand, probably the biggest now even being owned by adidas, so choosing these shoes to be worn by my character. Why I chose the costume and props:
  • 30. Sound Effects/Music • For my project, I’m not planning on having any music at all, my idea is to try and capture the audio as best as possible and even enhance it to increase the feeling of speed. My plan is to use more than one microphone when on location to capture the audio far enough away from the camera that the microphone on the camera wouldn’t be able to capture. To do so when both the camera and Tascam, the handheld audio recorder, or both recording, I will need to somehow create a large sound that will obviously show on the audio allowing me to sync them together easily in post. But I’m hoping to have some parts with comedic aspects too, so the use of sound effects could be very helpful, I could copy the use of sound effects in films such as “The Dead Don’t Die”. The use of sound effects in that film for comedy is probably a rather easy way, the sound effects were purposefully chosen to not fit with what’s happening on screen. For example, when a small electric car enters the frame, they chose to use a sound effect for some sort of rocket. I’m contemplating using sound effects in the same way for comedic effect but, if I chose my sound effects correctly, they could also fit with what’s happening on screen rather well. For example, if I had a shot with the rider on the bike coming almost directly towards the camera at high speed, say a sound effect of a formula one car or some sort of race car would help with comedic effect but will fit with the fact that the rider and the bike were travelling very fast.
  • 31. Sound Effects/Music • But on the other hand, I've had the idea that if I have the time to create a different version of the advert with music. I’d like to use all the same shots, almost definitely in the same order too but there would be some differences beside the opposite being the added music, I’d like to try and add extra aspects being cutting the shots in time with the music. I’m not entirely sure how I would layer the music and audio from the clips, I feel as if I wouldn’t want the music to completely overpower the audio from the shots and not be able to hear the original audio. I’d like to have a flattering combination of music paired with the raw sound of the bike being ridden. • I’d like to use a song like Monolith by Holograms or Fell In Love With a Girl by The White Stripes as I feel as if they would fit really well with the idea of the bike, it’s these songs are very upbeat and fast paced which contributes to the advertisement trying to get the bike across as fast and almost aggressive.
  • 33. TREK SIREN ADVERT SCRIPT The advert will open up with an animated version of the of the trek logo and then cut to black. Fading from black into a shot from behind of the actor, the actor will walk through a darkened corridor, picking up his helmet and moving towards an open door in front of him to create a silhouette and as he walks, the camera will follow. Then cutting to a shot from outside the house with the actor stepping out of the house, walking to his van, placing his helmet in the back with the bike, shutting the back doors and getting in the front of the van. Transitioning from home to woods, a shot of the van driving through a fast section of road will be used. Arriving at the woods, the camera facing the back of the van, facing into the woods, the actor will leave the front of the van, open the back doors and pull the bike out for a very short cut to black. It will only be black for maybe something like 3 or 4 frames. Onto the riding parts of the advert, to transfer onto the bike it will be start with a close up of the rear tire to transfer from the cut to black, the rider will ride away from the camera with the camera panning up to keep the bike and actor in the centre of the frame. Cutting to a shot of the rider riding directly towards the camera, then a close up of the actor dropping the seat post and back to the same angle as the last shot for the rider to ride into a trail left of frame. To pick up the pace, the next couple of shots will be the actor at fast pace going through a section of multiple corners with 2 shots to break it up. Moving onto a steeper section of track, the actor will ride through it at pace and towards the camera, and then another time with the camera to the side so that in post, the shot will be slowed down to allow the audience to view the suspension in slow-motion. Adding to the fast pace, the rider will be captured going through one fast section and then a not so fast but steep section both being captured with wide angles.
  • 34. To prove the bike can do everything and to change the pace very quickly to keep the audience engaged, it will cut to a completely stationary + wide angle shot the actor climbing the bike up a very steep hill. To bring the pace back very quickly, it’ll cut to a very small length shot of the rider at high speed. Like yoyo effect, after the very fast clip, it will slow back down for the rider doing a jump and then speed back up for the actor going straight towards the camera. To slow it slightly down, the rider will do a section that involves a drop and some tight corners, so when it really slows down again, it’s not really abrupt. Because the next few shots create this montage of the rider finishing a steep section of trail and going into a climb. Adding to the advertisement side of the montage, it’ll involve a close up of the gears being used. Picking the pace back up, with a fast and rough section of a trail and then into a technical and slower section, to try and keep some pace, this one section that is technically difficult, it’ll be broken up into 2 shots. To then finish off the riding segment, It’ll be 2 shots breaking up a very steep section of trail, firsts shot being from the top at a low angle, so the rider disappears into the steep section and the other being from the bottom looking up to increase the feeling of steepness. To finish off the advert it’ll be a long shot of the rider going through a long section of trail shot from very far away and then cut into a shot on top of a viewing area with the bike stood on top.

  • 38. Location 1: Bubwith As the first Location is my home, as well as the actor’s home too, obviously we’ll already be on location. Because of the fact we’re already there, it’ll be the first location that we’ll be shooting on. It’d be available to shoot on all day long but ideally, I’ll want to shoot when the sun is low in the sky to make it seem as if it’s early in the day as it’ll be at the start of the advert. I’ll hope to finish shooting around eight o’clock to nine o’clock which’ll give us a lot of time to get to the next two locations and give us a lot of time to film the riding shots. All access to water, food and a toilet can be done on location, as it’s a house. DOOR ACTOR CAMERA VAN DOOR ACTOR
  • 39. Location 2: Moxby Lane Moving onto the second location of my project, where moxby lane joins stillington road. Me as well as the actor will be reaching this location at the same time, that being as close as we can be to half 9 o’clock. As it’s a completely public road, there’ll be no need to try and gain any permission. One downside to filming in this location is that it’s kind of in the middle of places with no real close places to access water, food or a toilet. Luckily for me and my actor, the shot that I want to capture in this location will be a small and easy shot to get, so it shouldn’t require much time on location. But on the off chance that it somehow takes a lot longer than I anticipate and me or the actor needs, food, drink, water or the toilet, it makes sense for us both to bring food and water to location to save time and money. But the toilet situation will require some travelling, the nearest place that could facilitate a toilet for either me or the actor is The Rose & Crown Pub in Sutton-on-the-Forest. A nearby Equestrian shop can be used for the address as it’s right next to the junction – YO61 1EH VAN
  • 40. Location 2: Yearsley Forest Moving onto the third location of my project, Yearsley woods is where most of my filming will take place. I’ve chosen Yearsley as it’s the place that me and the actor rides the most, so that has two benefits, one being that I know a lot of good places for me to film already and two being that as my actor has ridden there the most, especially recently, it means it’s the place where he’ll feel most comfortable riding at speed as he’ll know it better than some of the other places that I could have possibly chosen. Again, as the actor is actually the one driving us to the locations, we’ll be arriving at the same time, that being as close as we can get to 10 o’clock. Like the last location, same again Yearsley Forest is kind of in the middle two villages with not any nearby facilities that don’t require at least a bit of travelling to get too. Myself and the actor will have to arrive on location prepared for a whole day of riding and filming with enough food and drink, which we can either bring into the wood with us or, the most likely and easier option to do and the one we’ll probably pick, leaving the food and drink in the van at the car park as we won’t be very far from them. But we will also have a bottle each to bring with us into the forest. I know it’s not the nicest option, but probably the easiest option for when someone will need the toilet is to go off the trail or path into a less seen part of the woods. But here will be an option provided for actual toilets, they’re just not as easy to access. They’ll be located at the nearby pub, The Fairfax Arms located in Gilling just outside the forest – YO62 4JH. There could be a problem of the car park that I intend to use, the one closest to Yearsley Village, being too busy to not just film there for the shots of the actor getting the bike out of the van, but even to just park there, so there are two other places that I know where me and the actor could park. One being on the same road as The Fairfax Arms and another being at the top of the drive of the house – Windygates House- as that is actually another car park for Yearsley Forest. I won’t be making any layouts for Yearsley forest as there way too many shots to show the layout of, plus there are factors that could change the layout of my shot that couldn’t change the whole shot, but just the original layout.

  • 42. WEEK 1 Monday After having collected all my shots and photos needed for post-production, I will collect them from google drive which is where I’ll store them so that I can access them at home and in college. I’ll then make a start on the base of assembling where I want each shot in the video's timeline, which hopefully will only take one lesson, and then make a start on editing them too the length I want. Tuesday Tuesday I’ll collect all my audio clips from google drive, again that is where the will be stored. I’ll then take them into premiere pro and sync them with all the video clips and cut them to the length that I want. Wednesday On Wednesday, I’ll have the whole advert assembled, and my plan will be to create the animated logo for the entry, change any colour grading that I want and any effects that I’d like, for example slow-motion.
  • 43. WEEK 2 Monday I will start by exporting all my images off of google drive as that’s where they’ll be stored so I can access them anywhere. And I will start by choosing two photos that I want to use for a poster and two for just photography pieces. If I get all four edited by the end of the day, I’ll make a start by taking one of the two for the posters and start creating a poster. I can’t imagine I will. Tuesday Tuesday will only be for creating the two posters, I’ll follow the layout designs I have created, use the chosen colour schemes and fonts and create the advertisement posters for the bike. I feel as if I will definitely be able to create both posters in one day as long as I don’t come across any problems. Wednesday Wednesday will be for finishing editing the photos for the the photography pieces, I’ll be changing colouring as well as removing any unwanted parts of the photos. I’ll also go back to the posters to make any wanted improvements if I have the time left.
  • 44. WEEK 3 Monday If I am on schedule, which I should be as long as no major problems occur, Monday will be for collecting peer and self feedback, I will take notes on my own thoughts and others in a word document and create ways that I could improve on the feedback. Tuesday Tuesday will be for taking these suggested improvements and start applying them to my products. Ideally the Tv advert first as out of the products I’ll be making it’s the moist important. Wednesday Wednesday will be designated for finishing off any suggested improvements. Once completed, I will then take time to look back and compare the new improved products to the older not improved versions and see whether there are any parts that I feel as if works better in the original.
  • 45. WEEK 4 Monday Week four will be for finishing off any parts of the products that I would like to do. That could be finishing the suggested improvements or reverting improvements back to the original or just finishing certain techniques for a product. Tuesday Tuesday will be just for finishing off all the products. Wednesday Wednesday will be just for finishing off all the products.
