1. Absent Presence (2014)
Scene: Interior. Night
In a reflection of a window, a doll is sitting still. A faint reflection of a Jessica’s face is appears next to the doll with
wide eyes and a very faint smile. From outside the room we here LYLA talking
LYLA
Jessica, are you nearly ready for bed?
LYLA enters the room and walks over to JESSICA. LYLA picks up a hairbrush and begins to brush JESSICAS HAIR.
JESSICA begins to play with the dolls hair.
LYLA
You need to be in bed before Mummy and Daddy get home
JESSICA looks left; looking past the camera to an object smirking, the camera then shows an alarm clock at the time
7:55pm
JESSICA
EMILIE will be here soon
LYLA
JESSICA, you have to stop talking to imaginary (JESSICA interrupts)
JESSICA
SHES NOT IMAGINARY
LYLA rolls her eyes and sighs
LYLA
Come on, bed time now
JESSICA walks over to her bed and climbs in, LYLA tucks her in and kisses her on the forehead
LYLA
Goodnight
LYLA walks around the bed, turns off the light and pulls the door to
LYLA sighs, scrapes hair off face and walks down the hallway to the bathroom. She enters the bathroom and walk
over to the tap where she splashes her face with water. She rests her hands either side of the sink and looks at her
reflection in the window. From in the back ground we hear laughing coming from JESSICA’S room. LYLA rolls her
eyes and walks out of the bathroom, whilst walking she shouts..
LYLA
JESSICA, I said bedtime now
LYLA continues to walk down the hallway to JESSICA’S bedroom; she gently pushes the door open to find JESSICA
sleeping.
The camera stays focused on JESSICA whilst from in the back ground we hear the noise of a piano playing music.
LYLA frowns and looks worried, she shuts JESSICA’S door and walks toward the stairs.

2. The music continues to play and LYLA has a worried look on her face. She tentatively walks down the stairs and
approaches the room where the music is coming from. She gently puts her hand on the door and the music stops
playing. She gently pushes the door open where the room is black and nothing can be seen.
The screen continues to stay black and a loud alarm sound plays. The camera switches to an alarm reading 8:00am
and then reveals LYLA waking up in bed.
