manufacture of paints according mass transfer
1. PAINTS
oPaints are fluid material that after applying over a
surface forms a solid, cohesive, decorative and
protective film.
O Paints are both used for decorative purposes as
well as protecting film for the surfaces.
oPaint has three main ingredients
o Pigment
o Binder
osolvent
5. o Solvents are used to dissolve the
pigment-binder system.
SOLVENTS
6. Manufacturing of Paints.
Starts with grinding process where pigments are
broken down into fine particles by a ball mill.
Solid to Liquid Mass Transfer
These fine pigment are then introduced in Pug
Mixer where binder and solvents are added and
the process of mass transfer starts which in this
case Solid to Liquid Mass Transfer and this
process is supported by Fick's Law of Diffusion
For Molecular Diffusion states that
7. “ the transfer or movement of individual
molecules through a fluid by mean of random,
individual movements of the molecules.”
It is then sent to another tank where further materials are
added to make it a finished product.
After that, Quality checking and testing follows after.
Color intensity, matching, viscosity, gloss etc. are being
tested.
Filtration
Paint is then filtered to remove any unwanted particles
before being packed.
8. Paints are poured onto a vibrating screen Mesh or
gauges made from steel (or metals). It vibrates
allowing paint to pass through sieves.
