ASSRURE Module
Number 3- Teaching Activities of the fourth of July to Russian students that just arrived to the
United States, ages 10 to 19, 15 in total ….8 males and 7 females. They are all mildly to severe
vision impaired.
A- Analyze Learners
The learners are 15 Russian students varying in age from 10-19. The students are both
male and female that are visual impaired, meaning they have to use hearing and touch to
learn the material. The students have also just arrived into the United States, and will
have little knowledge of American history.
S- State Objectives
My 15 visually impaired Russian students will expand their knowledge of the importance
of the 4th of July for Americans by using books written in Braille, audio tapes of the pledge of
allegiance, lecture, computer with visually impaired technology, and participating in a cookout.
By the end of the week they will be able to recite the pledge of allegiance with 65% accuracy.
S- Select Methods, Media, and Materials
By gaining an understanding for the importance of the 4th of July to American citizens the
students will understand the reason for the celebratory activities.
The media and materials used have to be usable by the visual impaired so books written
in Braille, audio tapes, lecture, and computers adapt to help the visually impaired will be the
choice. Food and food preparation materials (i.e. grill, pre-prepared food) for the cookout will
also be part of the materials needed.
U- Utilize Media and Material
The students will be introduced to the importance of the 4th of July to begin their learning
experience, and then the media and materials will be used to further the experience and teach the
students the pledge of allegiance before the cookout.
R- Require Learner Participation
The students will participate in daily recitation of the pledge of allegiance with the final
day being a cookout that will allow them to participate in an activity that is celebrated by many
on the 4th of July.
E-Evaluate and Revise
Depending on the outcome of the learning experience and the enjoyment of the students
at the cookout the media and material will be evaluated and revised. New media and material for
visually impaired students may also increase the learning experience for the students.
