2. For my advertising campaign, I created two
posters.
I have two target audiences, 16-24 year olds
and people who have a spare room in their
house. I think my posters are fit for purpose
because they reach both target audiences.
âA bench is to sit, not to sleepâ is telling people
that others, especially young people shouldnât
have to sleep on a bench and that people need
to do something about it.
I think that both of posters fit the purpose
because they get the message across that
there are people who are homeless and
desperately need a home, and also that people
can help and volunteer.
All of my products have the SASH logo on, this
helps the person who is seeing the poster
know that they are all for the same charity and
all have the same purpose of helping to get
young people off the streets.
One of my posters has a fact on, this shows
that my poster is real and serious. It has
information on about homelessness and how
people can over come it, this is how it fits its
purpose.
All of my products have the website on, or a website
address that takes you straight to the volunteering
part on the SASH website. This is advertising the SASH
website and trying to get people to search it and have
a look.
3. All of my products communicate the message clearly. I have
done this by using a specific font that is called Typewriter, as
it is clear with rough edges, representing a homeless person.
I have made the titles big on my posters so people can read
from a distance what the poster will be about. I have used
the same font on each product. On my sticker, the slogan is in
the font and on my bookmark, the story is. Along, with the
SASH logo, this helps people know that all of the products are
based on the same thing, for the same charity.
I have created my own slogans and titles, on my posters one
is âA bench is to sit, not to sleepâ, I think this gets the message
across clearly as its intriguing and makes people want to read
on to see what the information has to say.
On my sticker, the message on the cardboard has âThank youâ
written on. This shows that SASH is doing something and
people are thanking them for their work. I think this worked
well as not every product can have a negative yet effective
title. The thank you shows that what people are doing is
helping already.
On my bookmark, I have written a little story about a girl,
who has been referred to and helped by SASH. I think the
message it gives across is done clearly because it shows that
she was a young girl who didnât know what to do and where
to go, but she was helped by SASH and had a bed to sleep in.
4. I have two target audiences for my products. Young people
aged 16-24 who SASH take in, and people who have their
own home and could provide a spare room for the people
who need helping.
I think all of my products have the ability to reach both my
target audiences but some more than others. My posters
manage to target both of the audiences yet I think that my
book mark and my sticker target one audience more than
the other.
The SASH logo is on each product so people who either
know or donât know about SASH, now do. People need to
recognize the logo straight away so they know what charity
is helping the homeless people.
My bookmark doesnât reach people aged 16-24 target
audience range as much as Iâd like it too. It doesnât give
enough information on where the homeless people can go
and how to get there, it just provides a website, which they
probably canât access the internet so wonât be able to
search it. However, I think it reaches the other target
audience well as it shows that SASH helped people and if
they became a host, they could help people who are having
a hard time and need somewhere to stay until they get back
on track.
5. The techniques I Used on the imagery are all similar.
My first poster has a picture of a park bench, originally this image was
very Christmassy and colourful. I turned the picture black and white and
adjusted the levels until it became the colours I wanted. I then flipped
the image so the bench was positioned on the page where I wanted it
and burned around the edges to make the bench stand out and the
background where the information is very dark. After the black and
white imagery worked well with the green and white font that SASH
use, I decided to use this for my other products. I made the image of the
bench look dark and when I added the words âA bench is to sit, not to
sleepâ it made the whole poster more sad, as I tried to make it
persuasive so people would read it and volunteer.
My book mark and sticker also have the black and white images with
the green and white font. I like this technique because it makes the
important information stand out as well as keeping SASHâs house style.
For the logo, on all of my products I used the magic want to delete the
white bits, so the gaps were the same colour as my background colour.
This was so the writing didnât have white gaps in and look odd against
the background.
I used colour overlay on all of my images, to make the font the same
colour as the SASH logo. It was important that I kept to the same colours
as SASH so that it was the same house style.
For my sticker, I used a rectangular image and then had to make it into a
circular shape to fit the circle sticker. I used the eraser tool and made
the brush size very big but also made it very faint so it wasnât taking a
lot of my image away.
6. For my bookmark, I rotoscoped the image of the girl to cut
out the bits of the image I didnât need. I think this was
effective because it made the image fit in against the
background better.
Another technique that I used was the font. I got a font
called Typewriter from dafont, com and made it the same
colour as the SASH logo. This is effective because it has the
same house style. I tried to make the title font as big as I
could, but so it also still looked good.
Another technique was putting the website on every
product. A website can hold a lot more information that a
poster, so trying to get people to visit the SASH website
more, may make it become more successful, by people
knowing more about it and people volunteering more.
7. The content of my poster has a fact, and some
information on. I think the fact is very effective because
when there are statistics on a page, people realise that
its real and serious. The fact is about how many young
people are homeless so it is the most relevant fact to
put on it, and to relate it to the charity SASH.
My poster also has a small paragraph of information on.
It gets straight to the point and states that there are
homeless young people who are in desperate need of a
home and if someone has a spare room in their house,
they could become a host. I think this is effective as it is
a readable amount and not too overwhelming. If
something has to much information on, people get put
off reading all of it so it needs to be straight to the
point.
The content on my book mark is a small story about a
girl who was homeless, but her friend took her to SASH
and she had meals and a bed to sleep in for a while. I
think it is effective because its what happened to real
people and it shows people that going to SASH isnât
scary and if you go you will be fine. It has a positive side
to it and gives people hope.
The sticker I made only has âThank youâ on and a slogan
that says âSaving a life is easy, help the homeless.â
Although there isnât very much information, it is still
effective because the âthank youâ is positive and shows
that what people have done has helped, and the slogan
shows that just a small donation to the charity would
help and its very easy to do.
The colours (font, SASH green) are all the same
throughout the products I made.
The pictures are ones I originally chose before I
started to make the products.
8. SASHâs own book mark has no image on, and is quite dull. It has some information
on about what they can offer and if anyone can help. It isnât very eye catching, yet
you know straight away it is a product for SASH. My book mark on the other hand is
very bright and eye catching, with a picture of a homeless teenage girl to make
people feel sympathy towards it and a small story to try and make people in need go
to SASH. I think my book mark is more effective and more likely to be noticed.
SASHâs poster has a lot of white space on that looks as though things should have
been put there. I like the way they used the images in the shape of the house on
their logo. It has all the information it needs on the poster with it being not much
writing, which I like but it still looks a bit empty, I think they could have used a back
ground colour as it isnât very eye catching in comparison with the one I made.
My poster has light colours on a dark background which makes it stand out straight
away, my image manages to grab peoples attention and make them sympathise
with the situation without actually using a homeless person. My paragraph of
information is all in one and the only other thing I have is a fact and the website.

9. My original lay out for my poster was very similar to what I made, I only made
a few adjustments and that was because when I saw the image and
information all put together it looked better in a slightly different place.
Out of all of my products, it was only my poster that I made adjustments too. I
originally wanted two pictures but then I thought that it didnât look very good
so I made it just into one, then decided to change it into the background so
everything was relatively the same colour. I also wanted more information
on my poster but thought it looked more effective with less writing on.
For my sticker, I stuck to the exact lay out that I originally designed.
For my bookmark, the thing I only very slightly changed from my lay out was
the top. At the beginning I wanted to put the logo in the top right hand
corner, then when it came to doing it I chose to make it fit across the top
instead as it looked better.
I also chose my font when I was
making the layout and decided
to keep it for all of my products,
so I had the same house style
and was working with SASHâs
colours.
