Correlation
“No subject is ever well understood and
no art is intelligently practiced, if the
light which the other studies are able to
throw upon it is deliberately shut out.”

 Education is a coordinated process and the
major aim of education is the unification of
knowledge.
 Science cannot be taught in isolation.
 To solve a practical difficulty combined
knowledge of physics and other branches of
knowledge is necessary.
 The child must know the importance
between different branches of knowledge.
 Hence teaching of various subject is
correlated.
CORRELATION

Correlation means the relationship between different
subjects of the curriculum.
The term ‘correlation’ in its simplest form means ‘connect
or to be connected’.
It can be direct or reciprocal.
It is the conscious effort made by the teachers teaching
various subjects to show similarities or dependence of
one subject on another.
Uses of Correlation are as follows
1. Mind perceives knowledge as a
whole.
2. Retention of knowledge.
3. All round development
4. It makes the lesson easy and clear
5. Develops various human and social
qualities such as co-operation,
citizenship etc.
6. It strengthens skills.

CORRELATION OF SCIENCE WITHIN THE SUBJECT
 All the branches of science are interdependent upon
each other & a no: of facts and principles which are
common to various science subjects.
 As a result , new subjects like Physical chemistry,Bio-
Physics,Bio-Chemistry,Soil Chemistry , Electrochemisry
, Geo- Physics have been introduced.
 Physics provides instruments for the study of almost all
other science subjects , thus correlating many principles
of physics with other science subjects.
 Subject like ‘atom’, ‘heat of a chemical reaction’,
‘Electrolysis’, are of equal importance to a Physicist and
Chemist

Correlation of science with other subjects can be of two types
Systematic Correlation
• It is achieved by a careful
organization of curriculum in
different subjects
• It can be effective only when the
teachers of different subjects co-
operate and co-ordinate their
work.

Incidental Correlation
 Natural correlation.
 It means a broad treatment of
the subject that brings about
points of similarities between
science and other related
subjects.
 Success of incidental
correlation depends on ‘wide
knowledge and versatility of
the science teacher’ .

 Science is a body of knowledge about the Universe.
 Mathematics is a language that can describe relationships and change in
relationships in a rational way.
 Science generally uses mathematics as a tool to describe science.
 In fact all scientific equations are expressed into some form of mathematical
equations.
 A few scientists like Galileo and Albert Einstein believe that the laws of the
Universe are mathematical .

• The pupils of science have to write often essays on
scientific topics on inventions and life history of scientists
and notes on their laboratory experiments.
• Science and language teachers have equal responsibilities
in developing clear and accurate expression.
• They could be encouraged to write in distinct, lucid
language.
• Science books on natural history and biography are
valuable contributions to literature and provide excellent
reading materials.

world history which coincide with
important scientific discoveries.
• Certain important discoveries and
inventions took place in the reign
of certain famous kings who
patronized the scientist.
• Correlation with science and
history is very prominent on topics
like the 'story of moon', 'story of
earth', story of man' and 'story of
planets'.

Correlation of science and drawing (Art and craft)
Science offers a vast scope for activities connected with art and craft.
Eg :- Model making, painting, drawing etc can be
encouraged in the course of teaching science.
Drawing of charts, diagrams and pictures
related to science.
Correlation of science and music
In science, a student get the knowledge
of resonance, vibrating systems in string
and air columns and musical scales which
is quite useful to him to undergo a study
of music. In music , the student comes
across various types of instruments and
equipments which are based on the
principles of the science.

of science interesting and
realistic.

ADVANTAGES OF CORRELATION
CONCLUSION
Science is a blend of logic and imagination.
The process of formulating and testing hypothesis is one
of the core activities of scientists. The use of logic and
cross examination of evidence are necessary for the
advancement of science. Not only in science, in daily life
also we are facing many problematic situations. For
dealing with such problems, we need vast knowledge
about other subjects also. So it is necessary to correlate
the physical science with other subjects and students
must understand the importance of correlation.

Correlation

  • 3.  Education is a coordinated process and the major aim of education is the unification of knowledge.  Science cannot be taught in isolation.  To solve a practical difficulty combined knowledge of physics and other branches of knowledge is necessary.  The child must know the importance between different branches of knowledge.  Hence teaching of various subject is correlated.
  • 4. CORRELATION 4 Correlation means the relationship between different subjects of the curriculum. The term ‘correlation’ in its simplest form means ‘connect or to be connected’. It can be direct or reciprocal. It is the conscious effort made by the teachers teaching various subjects to show similarities or dependence of one subject on another.
  • 5. Uses of Correlation are as follows 1. Mind perceives knowledge as a whole. 2. Retention of knowledge. 3. All round development 4. It makes the lesson easy and clear 5. Develops various human and social qualities such as co-operation, citizenship etc. 6. It strengthens skills.

  • 8. 8 CORRELATION OF SCIENCE WITHIN THE SUBJECT  All the branches of science are interdependent upon each other & a no: of facts and principles which are common to various science subjects.  As a result , new subjects like Physical chemistry,Bio- Physics,Bio-Chemistry,Soil Chemistry , Electrochemisry , Geo- Physics have been introduced.  Physics provides instruments for the study of almost all other science subjects , thus correlating many principles of physics with other science subjects.  Subject like ‘atom’, ‘heat of a chemical reaction’, ‘Electrolysis’, are of equal importance to a Physicist and Chemist

Correlation of science with other subjects can be of two types Systematic Correlation • It is achieved by a careful organization of curriculum in different subjects • It can be effective only when the teachers of different subjects co- operate and co-ordinate their work. 10 Incidental Correlation  Natural correlation.  It means a broad treatment of the subject that brings about points of similarities between science and other related subjects.  Success of incidental correlation depends on ‘wide knowledge and versatility of the science teacher’ .

  • 12. CORRELATION OF SCIENCE AND BIOLOGY • Biology constitutes the relation with every aspect of human and everyday science. • The study of biology needs experiences almost all the branches of science including chemistry, physics, geology etc

CORRELATION OF SCIENCE AND LANGUAGE 13 • The pupils of science have to write often essays on scientific topics on inventions and life history of scientists and notes on their laboratory experiments. • Science and language teachers have equal responsibilities in developing clear and accurate expression. • They could be encouraged to write in distinct, lucid language. • Science books on natural history and biography are valuable contributions to literature and provide excellent reading materials.
  • 14. CORRELATION OF SCIENCE AND GEOGRAPHY • Geography is based on scientific principles so it can be correlated with physical sciences. • Facts of climates and seasons depends on the elementary notions of scientific principles.
  • 15. 15 Correlation of science and history • It is useful to mention events in the world history which coincide with important scientific discoveries. • Certain important discoveries and inventions took place in the reign of certain famous kings who patronized the scientist. • Correlation with science and history is very prominent on topics like the 'story of moon', 'story of earth', story of man' and 'story of planets'.

Correlation of science and music In science, a student get the knowledge of resonance, vibrating systems in string and air columns and musical scales which is quite useful to him to undergo a study of music. In music , the student comes across various types of instruments and equipments which are based on the principles of the science. 18

  • 22. CONCLUSION Science is a blend of logic and imagination. The process of formulating and testing hypothesis is one of the core activities of scientists. The use of logic and cross examination of evidence are necessary for the advancement of science. Not only in science, in daily life also we are facing many problematic situations. For dealing with such problems, we need vast knowledge about other subjects also. So it is necessary to correlate the physical science with other subjects and students must understand the importance of correlation.
