- 2. Oomycetes are water molds fungus like protists that feed on decaying organic mateerial by absorbing nutrients through their cell walls which are made of cellulose. Water moulds or oomycetes are as a group of filamentous,unicellular protists physically resembling fungi

However the water molds have cellulose in their cell walls while other fungi have chitin Oomycetes have a complex reproduction cycle which icludes flagella bear ing zoospores.
