The document discusses several ways that music videos can promote artists and their music. It explains how featuring famous artists in music videos can help new artists gain recognition and followers. It also discusses how music videos can promote album sales by showing the artist and allowing fans to learn about other songs. The document also talks about how some music videos use the "male gaze" to appear more sexualized and gain more viewers. Additionally, it covers how social media and appearances in other artists' music videos can help promote artists. The document provides examples to support each of these points.
2. Publicity
Big Time Rush features snoop dog to gain more publicity for their boy band the video helps the band to
gain a wider scope of recognition between snoop dog’s fans etc. these fans that watch the video
then get adopted into Big Time Rushes. This is a common move for artists who are new to the
industry to feature famous artists (and / or actors) in their videos they gain a new group of followers
and thus gain much more money in publicity.

3. album sales
The music videos are a part of the fandom as the fans want to see the artist/Band e.g. The Fray
Up close hence the close ups to the band members face’s during the videos so that they are
recognisable to the audience also for future reference when at concerts etc.. The videos help to
promote the album sales and this helps the audience to learn about other songs in they've sung as
well as gain knowledge on other songs linking into other songs through out the album.
This also works the other way round as people who've been to the concert and don't know the artist
can find their album in stores from the covers etc.

4. Male gaze theory
• Arianna Grande is a prime example of when the male gaze theory is involved she doesn’t save much to
the imagination in her videos and they’ve all become very sexualised through media influence on
how a female artist could gain many more viewers.
• Arianna and her entourage are placed in multiple sexual positions with very little clothing covering their
bodies.
• Laura Mulvey came up with the male gaze theory when she decided to look at the media through the
heterosexual males point of view (what he wants to see to keep him interested).

5. Promotion of the artist
• Artists can be promoted through social media e.g. Facebook, vine , twitter or YouTube.
• Promoting an artist is important because it allows people to recognize their hard work which in turn
means people are more likely to buy what they produce and make them look for other pieces
(tweets or vines) of work by the same artist and also keep themselves updated on the artists latest
situation.
• Artists are also promoted by making appearances in other artists music videos and if the fans enjoy
their performance they search them up and add on to the fan base

6. synergy
• The wanted are making money from different platforms magazines/ books , games/apps and
clothes etc. to attract different audiences. The media companies in turn use a synergistic technique in
order to increase brand image through the multiple products / media outlets also to bring in more
money for the media companies which in turn improves products for the overall end result of a loyal
audience base which will continue to grow.
To put it simply the different entities are working together for a similar and advantageous end goal
which will satisfy all sides participating.

7. Public image and reputation.
• Black veil brides (or Bvb for short) have been on the scene for 8 years with a well known reputation in
the music industry because of their Gothic metal core image, they’re a group of guys who basically
support the underdogs they have a certain public image so their audience can always associate them
with their genre of music however if you listen closely to the lyrics they’re always about the unfair
side of life and watching out for their fans so they kind of contrast with the image/part they’re told
to play.
• They’ve got their own logo which consists of their band name in it’s abbreviated form.

8. Music videos and messages transmitted
• Kelly Clarkson- piece by piece in this video the artist is singing about a female being abandoned by her
father however it also speaks about how someone will come in to your life and pick up the broken
pieces “Piece by piece he restored my faith that a man can be kind and a father could... Stay” it’s
directed to the female audience and the message is that one day all the bad things are going to be
behind you so you got look forward and be better than them and you’ll succeed.
• The artist also sends the message that the future will be better if you learn from those mistakes and try
your hardest not to be like the one’s who leave “I will never leave her like you left me and she will
never have to wonder her worth because unlike you I'm going to put her first”.
