6. LET’S MAKE IT A COMPOUND SENTENCE…..
• WE NEED 2 SIMPLE SENTENCES
AND A CONJUNCTION
( AND, SO, BUT, IF , WHEN, ETC……)
( 2 SUBJECTS, 2 PREDICATES OR 2 PIECES OF INFORMATION)
Eg; I visited the beach, and I got a really bad sun burn.
Note: I visited the beach, and got a really bad sun burn.( simple
sentence, with compound predicate)
7. • She changed the light bulb.
She didn’t like fixing things.
She changed the light bulb, but she didn’t like fixing things.
He ran fast, but he missed the train.
(Two independent Clauses here)
8. Complex Sentences……
• Begin with a conjunction and the ideas are separated with a
comma
(,)
Independent clause + dependent(s) clause
When we buy her birthday cake, we have to make sure it’s strawberry.
9. • She was a great English teacher.
She couldn’t change a light bulb safely.
Although she was a great English teacher, she couldn’t change a light
bulb safely.
She could not change the light bulb safely, although she was a great
English teacher.
10. Compound Complex Sentences:
Compound = idependents
• Complex = 1 independent + dependent(s)
• Compound Complex= independents + dependent(s)
• Eg;
• After the storm passed, I went to the garden, and I picked flowers.
• ( because they were beautiful)
11. Impact:-
• Although she wasn’t the most skilled at changing light bulbs, she
needed to be able to see. As she turned the bulb, a bolt of electricity
shocked her system, She left the power on! She was dazed and
confused but she was ok. She thought she should probably stick to
teaching English.
