2. Lyme Disease has two other names
One: The Great Imitator - this disease mimics other diseases symptoms
Two: Chronic Lyme Disease
3. Who discovered Lyme Disease
A man named Wilhelm “Willy” Burgdorfer in 1982 he was born in Basel,
Switzerland
He was educated at the University Of Basel and he received one award in medical
entomology
Lyme Disease bacteria was named after him because he was the founder of Lyme
Disease
4. Where is the body affected for the Disease
- Integumentary system, nervous system, heart, joints, and even your brain
5. The symptoms of Lyme Disease
- Headache, weakness in limbs, fever, and fatigue
- The Joints swell and get stiff
- The Skin gets a rash that looks like a bull’s eye and is very red
6. How Is It treated ?
Most people don't catch Lyme Disease in the early stages
If you catch it early you can get antibiotics, such as doxycycline from your doctor.
In a few weeks the medicine will eliminate the bad bacteria. After getting it once it
stays there but it won't hurt anything if it is under control with a regular
prescription.
If you don't catch it in early stages, you need to talk to your doctor and make a plan
to come in a couple times a week and have the doctor keep an eye on you. See how
your body is doing
9. How does the Immune System React
The bacteria enters the body. Once that happens the white blood cells inspect the
bacteria and find that they are bad they start to fight them off and kill them. If the
white blood cells get overwhelmed then your immune system is compromised.
10. Where is it common
Lyme Disease is common all over the world but most cases are in the northeast and
Midwest because of the climate
If you are outside in wooded/tall grass area quite frequently then you are more
prone to get the disease
11. What does it thrive off of
Deer ticks are found in woody areas and tall grass
The ticks cling to the branches of the trees or the tip to of the grass and when an
animal or a human passes by it jumps on to the animal/human and attaches itself to
you.
12. How does it reproduce in your Body
Lyme Disease has three layer cells which help it spin in the body to get around
easier. Lyme Disease is like no other Disease because its bacteria swims through
blood and tissue very easily. Other bacterial infections can't do that. Borrelia, the
bacteria has a coat around itself called Slime Layer and it acts as a protein in the
body so it can be hinded from the white blood cells in the immune system. This
makes it way more efficient to reproduce in the organs and spread rapidly.
