Teaching approach: I’ll use the communicative approach in order to give the
students the opportunity to use the language to communicate in real
situations.
Integration of skills: The four skills will be integrated. Reading and writing will
be developed by reading texts and answering different questions. Listening
and speaking will be also developed through listening to the teacher and the
classmates and by reading and repeating vocabulary/ phrases.
Communicative skills will be developed by interaction.
Materials and resources: in the classroom we will use the book with which
the students always work. I’ll also use a picture in the warm up stage.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: ICT will be present because
students will use their cell phones in order to look for new words in an online
dictionary.
Seating arrangement: Students will be in their seats during the whole lesson.
They can change seats if needed in order to work in pairs.
Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I’ll monitor all my students
through the lesson and I’ll check whether if they understand what I say or
not. I’ll try to make them repeat the different patterns and encourage them
to use the chunks meaningfully.
Warm up (10 minutes)
Purpose: To begin the lesson and create a comfortable atmosphere; to introduce
the students to the topic.
I’ll be in the classroom and the students will enter. I’ll greet them and they will
settle into their seats. Once they are ready to start the lesson I will show them the
following picture “Look at this picture! What do you see in it? How can you interpret
3. it?”
Students will share their
points of view and I’ll write
on the board some words
or phrases that come up
from the discussion.
Transition: “Let’s find more about work and finish our reading!”
Presentation (20 minutes)
Purpose: To Expose the students to the language; to enhance students’
communicative skills and to develop or improve comprehensive skills.
At this stage students will have to
finish reading the text they
started in the previous lesson.
They will use the dictionaries or
their phones to look for new
words’ meanings and they will
also have to highlight in the text a
phrase or the part that they find is
related to the picture.
4. Transition: “Ok, let´s scan the text now!”
Development (20 minutes)
Purpose: to develop communicative skills; to foster interaction and to check
students’ knowledge of new vocabulary.
Activity 1: (10 minutes) Students will
have to do an activity about vocabulary
in which they have to complete
sentences with words from the text.
They will read the whole text again
(both parts) in order to understand it
and do the activity.
Activity 2: (10 minutes) as second activity students will have to write a summary of
the text they have read. They will do it on their own words and they will have to use
as much topic vocabulary as possible as well as explore the main idea of the text.
Transition: “Great job! It’s time to know about your expectations.
Closure (10 minutes)
Purpose: to raise students’ motivation.
“Well, now I want you to think a little bit about your future. Next year is your last
year of school and then you’ll have to face a new life. So when you finish school, will
you study or not? If you do so, what will you study? And for those who won’t keep
studying, what will you do?” We’ll discuss about their answers and then I’ll ask
about the ideal job. “And now I want you all tell me, what do you think is your ideal
job?” We will talk about this till break time and then students will go out. “It was
nice to see you all! Have a good day! Bye.”
