The document discusses the progression from a preliminary task to a final production. There were improvements in several areas:
Images were better lit with a wider variety of shot types and more planning. Text fonts were less bold and easier to read. The layout was dramatically improved by using Photoshop layers and research. The masthead became more professional and enticing to audiences by manipulating the text. Skills like camera techniques, Photoshop editing, and researching layouts were applied to a double page spread for the final production.
4. Progression and learning
There were many changes I wanted to make in the progression from my preliminary task to my final production.
Images – My images on my preliminary task are very basic and both that I incorporated were the same shot type. Many
aspects of my images were not planned such as the lighting and background as both of these were plain. In my final
production however, the images re much better lit with a wider variety of shot types and there was much more planning
involved (e.g. Mise en scene, lighting, positioning). They are also of much better quality due to learning about camera
features previously mentioned. Learning how to use many features on Photoshop also meant that the images looked more
crisp and editing certain parts also improved the final product.
Text – I feel as if I have progressed concerning the fonts I
have used. In the preliminary task the fonts were boring and
hard to read due to the boldness. I have changed this in my
production and used less bold fonts such as Trajan Pro.
Photoshop allowed me to edit the font height, width and
spacing which improved the fonts look on the production and
I ensured that the text contrasted the background so it is
easy to read
5. Progression and learning
Layout –The layout of my magazine is something else that I wanted to change and this has dramatically improved from
my preliminary task to my final product due to learning how layers work on Photoshop and by looking at my research and
seeing what effect it has on the magazine and how it entices the audience
Masthead –Throughout the production process I leant how important a masthead was due to it being the first thing that is
seen by the audience. My original masthead wasn’t very creative even though it was bold. Learning how to manipulate
text meant that I could alter the text to exactly how I wanted it to be whereas I lacked the skills to do this for my
preliminary task. Therefore for my main task my Masthead is much more professional and in tune with the codes and
conventions whilst also enticing the audience.
6. Final Production
I was able to include all of the things that I had learnt from creating my preliminary task to progressing to my final front
cover and contents page into my double page spread.
7. Progression and learning
The changes I made from my preliminary task to my final product and skills I acquired during this time I also
transferred into the production of my double page spread. These changes consisted of images, layout and text.
- Images – I learned how to take an eye catching image using a SLR camera (ISO, aperture) and how to manipulate
it on Photoshop (editing contrast, brightness and making it crisp)
- Layout – My knowledge of layouts gained from my research allowed me to produce a double page spread with a
flowing, interesting layout which is a crucial part of it
- Text –What I learnt about fonts allowed me to have a variation of size, styles etc. for different parts such as
quotes, title and even separate parts of the double page spread where necessary (interviewers questions)
