• Founded in 2005
• Almost 200 members and over 30
community members
• Works nationally and operates in
two languages (Finnish & Swedish)
• Chair (2009-> Dr. Reijo Kupiainen,
University of Tampere)
• Member of AOC Medialiteracy-
network and Nordicom-network
What do we do?
• FSME:
– Supports and develops the field of research and practises concerning
media education
– Contributes to the public debate
– Provides opportunities to share media educational experiences online
and offline (Medialiteracy.info-conference every year)
– Informs about media education via newsletters and mediaeducation.fi-
web portal

• Newsletters: twice a month, over 1500 subscribers
• International and national seminars och conferenses
• Medialiteracy.info – conference in Vaasa 2007 (200 participants
from 13 countries)
• Effective youth work and media protection needs media literacy
(40 participants from Finland, Estonia and Germany)
• Co-operation with members and partners internationally, especially
with Nordic countries, Estonia and Germany

What is FSME? • Supports and develops the field of research and practises concerning media education • Founded in 2005 • Almost 200 members and over 30 community members • Works nationally and operates in two languages (Finnish & Swedish) • Chair (2009-> Dr. Reijo Kupiainen, University of Tampere) • Member of AOC Medialiteracy- network and Nordicom-network

What do we do? • FSME: – Supports and develops the field of research and practises concerning media education – Contributes to the public debate – Provides opportunities to share media educational experiences online and offline (Medialiteracy.info-conference every year) – Informs about media education via newsletters and mediaeducation.fi- web portal
  • 4. Work in practise • Web portal www.mediaeducation.fi – News, events, information, materials, discussions, blogs… • Newsletters: twice a month, over 1500 subscribers • International and national seminars och conferenses • Medialiteracy.info – conference in Vaasa 2007 (200 participants from 13 countries) • Effective youth work and media protection needs media literacy (40 participants from Finland, Estonia and Germany) • Co-operation with members and partners internationally, especially with Nordic countries, Estonia and Germany • Electronic publications: www.mediaeducation.fi/publications
