really doing it?
2. … what is cultural heritage???
• Cultural Heritage is an expression of the ways of living developed by a
community and passed on from generation to generation, including
customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values.
Cultural Heritage is often expressed as either Intangible or Tangible
Cultural Heritage http://www.cultureindevelopment.nl
• Heritage is something living, alive and evolving
• It’s not just dusty old books, manuscripts, it is everything
13. • Social Media was essential to the success of the exhibition
• Social Media, especially Twitter, is a conversation – not a broadcast
mechanism
• The 80/20 rule applies
• It’s all about engagement
• The blog worked really well for us – people really wanted to share their
experiences of the club
• Personally, Not a Facebook fan – but it too was essential for us
• To do Social Media properly, it needs to be done properly
… reflections on exhibition & social
media …
14. • The exhibition was a success because, as we found out, Henrys
still means so much to Cork people
• Crowdsourcing threw up the most wonderful surprises
• Crowdsourcing makes people feel invested in the exhibition
• If you catch the popular imagination your exhibition can be
really successful and draw the crowds
• What in your local area is worth exhibiting?
… reflections on exhibition & cultural
heritage…
15. … was it a success ...
• Increased profile of the library locally, nationally and even
internationally – the media were all over us
• It was a very positive engagement with the wider community
• Raised profile of Library within UCC
• It led to an appreciation of what the library does and raised
expectations of what we can do
• It brought different peoples and content into the library – it went some
way towards breaking down the Ivory Walls
• Our exhibition space is now booked up until 2018
