Responsible for planning and designing courses using limited resources including courses encouraging and
explaining self-employment
Current course “Level 1 in Skills for Further Learning and Employment” has been re-designed from 17 units to 3
to take account of the fact that prisoners get transferred without notice or finish sentence and weren’t able to finish
training. Course has 95% success rate based on learning outcomes and attendance rates
Role calls for ability to deal with conflict and difficult people in an empathetic manner, has not found the need to
issue a “behaviour warning” (would result in prisoner having certain privileges withdrawn) demonstrating skill in
dealing with difficult behaviour and conflict
