12. Property Maintenance Operative (Standard)
Occupational Profile: The primary role of a Property Maintenance Operative is to optimise property condition and quality and to ensure
the building is kept in a safe working condition. Property Maintenance Operatives need to maintain a high level of
quality, providing maximum satisfaction to customers, clients, guests and team. They will understand the
mechanism of buildings including electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment. They will provide first
and immediate response to fault finding, whilst maximising quality and ensuring cost effectiveness. They will ensure
prevention of major damage that could result in extensive costs and minimise reactive intervention.

'unseen'. Cleaners ensure that the places we work in and the public places we use are attractive, safe and hygienic.
In hospitals cleaning staff are at the forefront of controlling the spread of infection, and in many walks of life
cleaners ensure a hazard free environment by ensuring it is safe and clean for the general public.

14. Horticulture & Landscape Operative (Standard - Not Approved)
Occupational Profile: Horticulture and Landscape Operatives can be employed to work in public parks and gardens, green spaces and
historic gardens, private gardens and estates or in production nurseries and retail outlets. Many businesses will be
specialised in their activities, such as grounds maintenance (soft-landscape) or landscape construction (hard-
landscape). Soft- landscaping includes the establishment and maintenance of plants and cultivated areas. Hard-
landscaping includes establishment of hard surfaces and structures in addition to the establishment of plants in
cultivated areas. W
Work is generally based outside and undertaken throughout the year, so apprentices will frequently work outside in
all weathers. Often people new to the industry will start in a ‘hands-on’ role covering a range of practical tasks, with
specialist skills being learnt through progression. A wide range of machinery and tools are used and additional
training may be required depending on the nature of the works undertaken. Working and learning in the horticulture
and landscape industries is rewarding, offers a diverse range of employment opportunities and includes a range of
skills that are transferrable into many other industries.
Typical Job Roles: The distinct nature of these two specialisms means very few businesses can offer the full breadth of skills and
therefore two options are available for this occupation; horticulture and landscape construction. The
employment area will dictate the option pursued. The horticulture option focuses on plant propagation and
plant growth. The landscape construction option focuses on the installation of features and structures;
application of landscape materials as well as supporting site management.

15. Commis Chef (Standard)
Occupational Profile: A commis chef is the most common starting position in many kitchens and in principal the most junior culinary role.
A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. The
primary objective of the commis chef is to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in every section
of the kitchen. Therefore having the opportunity to experience, consider and value each section with a view to
choosing an area where they feel most inspired.
The learning journey of any chef will vary considerably from one individual to the next; however it is necessary to
understand and have experience in the basics that this role provides in order to progress to any future senior chef
role.

Occupational Profile: A chef de partie is responsible for running a specific section of the kitchen. This type of chef usually manages a
small team of workers, which they must keep organised so that dishes go out on time and the work area remains
clean and orderly. However, in smaller kitchens a chef de partie may work independently as the only person in their
section.
Typical Job Roles: Also known as a station or section chef, the chef de partie reports to the senior chef and has a very important role in

17. Hospitality Team Member (Standard)
Occupational Profile: The role is very varied and although hospitality team members tend to specialise in an area, they have to be
adaptable and ready to support team members across the business, for example during busy periods. Specialist
areas in hospitality include food and beverage service, serving alcoholic beverages, barista, food preparation,
housekeeping, concierge and guest services, reception, reservations and conference and banqueting.
The most important part of the role is developing fantastic ‘hospitality’ skills and knowledge such as recognising
customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a
team to ensure that every customer, whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering
room service in a hotel or attending a business conference feels welcomed and looked after.

18. Retailer (Standard)
Occupational Profile:
The main purpose of a retailer is to assist customers when they purchase products and services, which requires a
good understanding of the stock being sold, the variety of ways customers can shop and the ability to process
payments, for example, using a till. Retailers must be passionate about delivering a quality service that always aims
to exceed customers’ expectations. Therefore, retailers enjoy direct contact with a wide range of people and are
motivated by completing a sale and knowing a customer is happy with their purchase. They can work in a variety of
shops and other retail establishments: small boutiques, large high street chains, supermarkets and well-known
department stores are just some examples. More specialist retailers include funeral services, garden centres,
delicatessens and people who work in remote environments for example in telephone, on-line and mail order retail.
Regardless of the type of products and services being sold, a wide representation of employers from across the retail

Occupational Profile:
Retail team leaders are a critical support to managers, delivering exceptional customer service and a positive
experience to customers, and may have to deputise for managers in their absence. The role is dynamic and in one
day can involve a variety of different functions. Most significantly retail team leaders guide and coordinate the work of
the team to complete tasks, identify and explore opportunities that drive sales, ensuring team members maintain
business standards in relation to merchandising, service and promotional activities, in line with procedures. Retail
team leaders gain the most of their team on a day to day basis, ensuring they are fully trained and work effectively
and to the best of their ability.

Occupational Profile: The role of a customer service practitioner is to deliver high quality products and services to the customers of their
organisation. Your core responsibility will be to provide a high quality service to customers which will be delivered
from the workplace, digitally, or through going out into the customer’s own locality. These may be one-off or routine
contacts and include dealing with orders, payments, offering advice, guidance and support, meet-and-greet, sales,
fixing problems, after care, service recovery or gaining insight through measuring customer satisfaction. You may
be the first point of contact and work in any sector or organisation type.
Your actions will influence the customer experience and their satisfaction with your organisation. You will

Occupational Profile: Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all
sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector.
Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management
responsibilities.
The responsibilities of the role are to support and engage with different parts of the organisation and interact with
internal or external customers. With a focus on adding value, the role of business administrator contributes to the
efficiency of an organisation, through support of functional areas, working across teams and resolving issues as
requested. The flexibility and responsiveness required allows the apprentice to develop a wide range of skills.
The business administrator is expected to deliver their responsibilities efficiently and with integrity – showing a

22. Associate Project Manager (Standard)
Occupational Profile: Projects can be defined and delivered within different contexts, across diverse industry sectors. They can be large
or small. Every project needs to be managed to ensure its success, An associate project manager knows what
needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost, and works with the
project team to achieve the required outcomes.
Associate project managers need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills.
An associate project manager utilises resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience and knowledge to
work together in a motivated and integrated team, with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities and
authorities.
Typical Job Roles: Dependent upon the size of the organisations and the complexity of projects, associate project managers’ job titles
will vary, but typically they can include: assistant project manager, junior project manager, project team leader.

24. Facilities Management Supervisor (Standard)
Occupational Profile: This apprenticeship prepares an individual for managing a facilities management service, or a group of services,
which can be labelled as ‘hard’ (estate/building management) or soft (catering/cleaning/administration/security). All
apprentices will be required to supervise others; to understand the contractual requirements and service delivery
targets between their employing organisation and the client/customer in order to achieve service targets. The
apprentice will have to provide customer service skills and be proactive in finding solutions to problems.

Occupational Profile: Security First Line Managers will be competent in supervising people and activities in line with regulatory
requirements; undertaking security risk assessments; providing security advice to others; understanding threat,
vulnerability and risk; security methods, operations and activities; incident management and planning; stakeholder
management; business communications and data security management within role(s) such as Ministry of Defence,

Occupational Profile: Hospitality managers work across a huge variety of organisations including bars, restaurants, cafés, conference
centres, banqueting venues, hotels and contract caterers. These managers generally specialise in a particular area,
however their core knowledge, skills and behaviours are aligned. Common to all managers in this role is their
passion for exceeding customers’ expectations. Hospitality managers have a high level of responsibility and are
accountable for fulfilling the business vision and objectives which requires excellent business, people and customer

Occupational Profile: LGV Drivers drive in a safe and fuel efficient manner, ensuring that the right products are delivered at the right time,
location and temperature (if required), with the correct documentation and within the shortest lead times. They are
responsible for maintaining the integrity of load and vehicle by applying correct procedures for restraint, road, health
and safety, they may work within one or more subsectors, including: shipping, removals, import/export, freight,
hazardous goods, and food. LGV Drivers will deliver to a range of settings, such as warehouses, shops and priva
homes, and their customer base will range from large global organisations to sole traders and private customers.

Occupational Profile: All financial services organisations have to meet a wide range of compliance and risk requirements set out in
legislation e.g. data security, or required by regulators e.g. financial crime, operational risk. To meet these
requirements many organisations will have dedicated Risk and/or Compliance departments that are experts in the
relevant legislation/regulator requirements. They provide proactive support and guidance to the business areas to
ensure that the organisation meets this wide range of requirements, balanced against achieving appropriate

Typical Job Roles: Within the Risk/Compliance function of a specific organisation, the role of the Compliance/Risk Officer is likely to

The apprentice will complete one appropriate qualification from one of the following Professional Bodies:
• International Compliance Association
• Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment
• London Institute of Banking & Finance
• Chartered Banker Institute – Cert in Complaint Handling
• Chartered Insurance Institute – Certificate in Financial Services, Certificate in Insurance
• Chartered Institute of Credit Management –
• Institute of Risk Management – International Certificate in Risk Management

Individual employers will set the selection criteria for their Apprenticeships. It is recommended that
employers may want most candidates to have Level 2 Maths and English. Other relevant or prior
experience may also be considered as an alternative.
Duration The length of this apprenticeship is expected to be typically 15 - 18 months.
