Graduates in the City may earn anything from £20k to £50k in their first year in work. Burns Carlton’s
graduates are typically able to demonstrate earnings from £25-£75k in their first year. Our top entrant
earned close to £100k in their first 12 months with us, hotly pursued by consultants on around £80k
and £75k. Our aim is to streamline this level of earnings to be the norm; this is only achievable by
employing ambitious graduates that are willing to put the hours in and always go the extra mile to
ensure they deliver for their clients.
Burns Carlton associate consultants are exemplary at sourcing ideal-match candidates for clients’
vacancies. Their role often begins with prospecting or ‘business development’, to find new clients that
have employment needs through a variety of methods. Once a need has been established, it is down
to the associate consultant to gather the full depth of detail from the client to perform the search
efficiently - both to uncover candidates that their contact will wish to interview and also to ensure they
have a full understanding of their profiles for other opportunities. Precision and detail are therefore
crucial in screening the candidate to ensure they will be able to go the distance, deliver in the
interview stages and, ultimately, in the role itself.
Associate consultants will be working with ‘best in class’ consultants at Burns Carlton, many of whom
have deep relationships with their clients and generate annual fees to rival that of some small
businesses. Being the best means combining a positive, determined attitude with a keenness to
absorb information, learn from your peers and have a ‘do whatever it takes’ mind-set. Finally, Burns
Carlton promotes internally. So, associate consultants that present the right qualities move to
consultant level, team or division management and on to group level.
