INTRODUCTION



A paper battery is an energy storage device .
It is used as a battery and a good capacitor.
It is formed by combining two things which are CARBON NANO
TUBES and CELLULOSE BASED PAPER.
DEFINITION OF PAPER BATTERY



A paper battery is a flexible , ultra thin energy storage and
production device formed by combining carbon nanotubes with
a conventional sheet of cellulose based paper.
It acts as a both high energy battery and a super capacitor ,
combining two components that are separate in traditional
electronics.
The nanotubes made from carbon and then added .
CARBON NANOTUBES



Carbon nanotubes is the main concept behind paper battery.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs are also known as BUKYTUBES) are
allotropes of carbon with cylindrical nanostructure.
CNTs exhibit extraordinary strength and unique electrical
properties. These are also efficient thermal conductor.

General Li-ION batteries are used in mobiles , laptops and most
of the electronic devices.
3 primary functional components of Li-ion battery are
-ve electrode (graphite)
+ve electrode (cobalt oxide)
Electrolytes(lithium salt in organic solvent)
During discharge and charging , lithium ions Li+ carry the
current from the negative to positive electrode and vice-versa
respectively , through the non-aqueous electrolyte.
CONSTRUCTION OF PAPER BATTERY







CNTs thin films were coated onto stainless steel substrate with a solution based process.
The concentration of CNT is 1.7 mg/ml.
A dried film with a thickness of 2 micrometre was formed after drying the CNT ink on the stainless
steel substrate at 80°C for 5 min . This film is then peeled off from substrate.
These film act as electrode of paper battery .
One film is pasted to electrolyte LTO (Li4Ti5O12) and the other film is pasted to electrolyte LCO(LiCoO2)
.
Paper is sandwiched between two electrolytes LTO and LOC with PVDF(poly vinylidene fluoride)
acting as glue.
NOTE- LTO(Lithium titanium oxide) & LCO(Lithium cobalt oxide).
STRUCTURE OF PAPER BATTERY
ADVANTAGES









Used as both battery and capacitor.
It is flexible and ultrathin energy storage device.
Long lasting
Non toxic.
Steady power production.
High efficiency.
Available in different sizes.
It is light weight and more economical.
Can be easily disposed and recharged.
DISADVANTAGE




Prone to tearing .
Should not be inhaled , as they can damage lungs .
Nanotubes made from carbon are expensive due to use of
procedures like electrolysis and laser ablation.
Nano toxic for CNT manufacturing workers.
APPLICATIONS







Can be used to power smart tags.
Can be used to power signal for medical devices .
Can be used to make items like gaming cards interactive at
very low cost.
Smart news paper.
Credit/Debit cards.
Calculator and wrist watch .
Digital camera





The black piece of paper can power a small light .
Flexible paper batteries could meet the energy demands of the
next generation of gadget.
The ambition is to produce reams of paper that could one day
power a car .
The paper battery was a glimpse of power storage.
