8. Activities: -Personality development
and soft skills
ORIENTATION Concerned Instructor: -
Dr. S. M. S. Quli
Personality development
• Personality development encompasses the dynamic
construction and deconstruction of integrative
characteristics that distinguish an individual in
terms of interpersonal behavioural traits.
• Personality development is ever-changing and
subject to contextual factors and life-altering
experiences. Personality development is also
dimensional in description and subjective in nature.
Soft skills
• Soft skills, also known as common skills or core
skills, are skills applicable to all professions. These
include critical thinking, problem solving, public
speaking, professional writing, teamwork, digital
literacy, leadership, professional attitude, work
ethic, career management and intercultural fluency.
This is in contrast to hard skills, which are specific to
individual professions.
• The word "skill" highlights the practical function.
The term alone has a broad meaning, and describes a
particular ability to complete tasks ranging from
easier ones like learning how to kick a ball to harder
ones like learning to be creative.

Concerned Instructor: -

Sisal is a crop that has traditionally been produced on large plantations, which have been quite pleased to
produce sisal fiber exclusively from the land utilized. On such estates the sisal leaves are mostly brought to
central processing facilities where the fiber, comprising only 4% of the harvested leaf is extracted from the leaf
suing wet processes. The waste remaining (96%) is either discarded causing environmental problems to water
tables or used as a mulch in sisal fields.
Sisal (Agave sisalana) is an agave that yields a stiff fiber traditionally used in making twine, rope, wire,
furniture’s, brushes, dartboards, etc.

STUDY OF MEDICINAL PLANT SPECIES (FLORA) OF GERMPLASM BANK
LOCATION: FACULTY OF FORESTY, BAU, RANCHI
Germplasm Bank was inaugurated by Former Governor of Jharkhand, Dr Syed Sibtey Razi on 21st December
2006 in the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr N.N. Singh. It contains 120 species of medicinal plants with some
tree species under Department of Forest Products & Utilisation.

Fiber is extracted by a process known as decortication, where leaves are crushed
and beaten by a rotating wheel set with blunt knives, so that only fibers remain.
The leaves are transported to a central decortication plant where water is used
to wash away the waste parts of the leaf.
The fiber is then dried, brushed and baled for export.
once washed and decortications. Proper drying is important as fiber quality
depends largely on moisture content.
Fiber is subsequently cleaned by brushing. Dry fibers are machine combed
and sorted into various grades, largely on the basis of the previous in-field
separation of leaves into size groups.
15. NATIONAL PARKS, SANCTUARIES & BIOSPHERE RESERVES
(BHAGWAN BIRSA BIOLOGICAL PARK)
Concerned Instructor: -
Mrs. S. J. Bakhla
Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, chakla, Ormanjhi, Ranchi is known for its natural habitat, suitable for wild animals. It is the full of natural
sal forest and its associates with magnificent regeneration. The Park is surrounded by a perennial water body, the Rukka Dam. Bhagwan
Birsa Biological Park is one of the major tourist attraction in Jharkhand. It has 1288 animals of 83 species. The breeding of many endangered
and exotic species are success stories of the Parks.
The aims of establishment of national parks and Sanctuaries with the view to-
i. Adequate representation of bio-geographic diversity.
ii. Proper geographic distribution of Park across prominent wilderness belt.
iii. Overcoming management deficiencies in Park.
iv. Promoting corridor value through forests and multiple-use areas that lie between
Park in each wilderness belt.
i. Establishing a monitoring mechanism to access the viability of network of Park.
The adoption program is a novel way to show our support and care for wild animals.
By adopting our favourite animal, we will contribute towards their feed,
veterinary care and welfare. Adopting an animal is a noble cause not only for us,
but also for our near and dear ones.

18. TEACHING AID
AND
TRANSFER OF TECHNOLOGY
A teaching aid is anything used by a teacher to help teach a lesson or make it more interesting to students.
Teaching aids can come in almost any form. Some of the most common are pictures, videos, charts, flashcards, and objects, like three-dimensional models or
educational toys. The term teaching aid is used to identify such materials as being a supplement to basic teaching (for example, teaching through a lecture).
Characteristics of Good Teaching aids
They should be meaningful and purposeful
They should be accurate in every aspect
They should be simple
They should be cheap
They should be improvised as for as possible
They should be large enough to be properly seen by the students for whom they are meant
They should be up-to-date
They should be easily portable
They should be according to the mental level of the students.
They should motivate they learners
Technology transfer (TT), also called transfer of technology (TOT), is the process of transferring (disseminating) technology from the person or organization
that owns or holds it to another person or organization, in an attempt to transform inventions and scientific outcomes into new products and services that benefit
society. Technology transfer is closely related to (and may arguably be considered a subset of) knowledge transfer.
A comprehensive definition of technology transfer today includes the notion of collaborative process as it became clear that global challenges could be resolved
only through the development of global solutions. Knowledge and technology transfer plays a crucial role in connecting innovation stakeholders and moving
inventions from creators to public and private users.
