FOREST RESEARCH INSTITUTE
 It was founded in 1864 as the British Imperial Forest School by
Dietrich Brandis.
 In 1906, it was re-established as the Imperial Forest Research
Institute, under the British Imperial Forestry Service.
 Forest Research Institute, now one of the institutes under
ICFRE, was conferred the status of Deemed University in
December 1991 on the recommendations of the UGC.

RAJAJI NATIONAL PARK
 Rajaji is thickly foliated predominantly by
the Sal Forest and a number of other forest
types which include the Western Gangetic
Moist and Northern dry Deciduous and
Khari-Sissoo forests.
 The park is home to the Cheetal, Barking
deer, Sambar deer, Wild Boar, antelopes
such as the Nilgai, Goral and of course
the Asian Elephant .
HARIDWAR FOREST
AREA
 Haridwar – gateway to the four
pilgrimages in the Uttarakhand
region is located on the foothills of
Shivalik. Haridwar also known as
gateway to God is one of the most
holy places of the Hindus who visit
Har ki pauri for a holy dip in the
sacred Ganga River.
 Dehradun Zoo, earlier known as Malsi
Deer Park is situated at Dehradun
Mussoorie Highway, about 15 km from
Ghantaghar, the center place of Dehradun
city.

ASAN WETLAND
CONSERVATION RESERVE
 The Asan Conservation Reserve,
located on the banks of River
Yamuna in Garhwal region in
Dehradun district, was designated
as the Ramsar Site on July 21,
2020.
 Ramsar Site Number: - 2437
 The 444.40 ha. area of Asan Wetland
was declared the first Conservation
Reserve of the country vide Govt. of
Uttarakhand on 5th Aug. 2005 and
dedicated to the Nation by H.E. the
President of India on 14 Aug. 2005.

form is Rosin and liquid form are

Library and Information Centre has
been running parallel to the history of
the Forest Research Institute
(FRI) since 1906.
 With the constitution of the Indian
Council of Forestry Research and
Education (ICFRE) as an
autonomous body under the Ministry
of Environment and Forest, Govt. of
India in the year 1986, the then Central
Library of FRI was upgraded
to National Forest Library and
Information Centre (NFLIC), the
acquisition of books and subscription
to journals increased manifold.
DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS & TREE IMPROVEMENT
This department deals with the Tree
Improvement either morphologically
or genetically.

  • 21.  The history of the National Forest Library and Information Centre has been running parallel to the history of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) since 1906.  With the constitution of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India in the year 1986, the then Central Library of FRI was upgraded to National Forest Library and Information Centre (NFLIC), the acquisition of books and subscription to journals increased manifold.
