2. Having joined the industry as an apprentice I have gained considerable experience in
most aspects of nuclear power station generation, training, operations and control. I have
been involved with a number of projects during the early stages right through to
completion. I was an original team member who set up the initial training for SZB. I was
also involved with factory acceptance testing of the SZB simulator re-host and spent
several years working with CAE programmers developing the simulator model to its
current high fidelity.
During my Operations Simulator Tutor secondment, I completed the advanced simulator
instructor’s course. I have written and developed training exercises and classroom
presentations for continuing training and initial training. In addition l performed the lead
tutor role for continuing training courses and initial training courses. I see myself as a
standard setter in training contributing to setting and maintaining the company standards
through delivery of lecture and simulator based training sessions. These standards I
would take to the position and deploy.
I have developed a solid technical background in all plant areas in PWR technologies.
This is complemented by a wide range of experience, including Maintenance, System
Engineering, Training and Operations at Nuclear Power Stations and Sizewell B PWR
Power Station. This includes detailed knowledge of Tech Specs, SAP, DAP and
emergency scheme roles. By pursuing my education and achieving a BEng Honours
degree in Mechanical engineering. I have the necessary experience and education to
achieve chartered status.
I have also gained experience in Gas reactors working within Maintenance at Bradwell
Power Station, where I was involved in implementation of CAT 1,2 and 3 modification
programmes to safety related plant. I also have gained experience in Fast Breeder
Reactor operation and maintenance, as part of a small team implementing planned
preventive maintenance system. These projects have assisted me to develop leadership,
team working and business awareness skills.
I am currently test team lead for the current Refuelling Outage 14. I have carried out
several roles in the refuelling outages. One of my biggest successes was leading the
operations team during the Integrated Leak Rate Test (ILRT) in Refuelling Outage 13.
This test involved working with US contractors to pressurise the containment building and
obtain a leakage rate within specified tolerance. I have been NSSS lead engineer for a
number of the outages. This role had me leading a large team of plant operators and
technicians through planned and forced outages. I was faced with many challenges
working closely with the team members and management. The team I led operated local
plant, produced numerous safety documents, isolated and realigned the plant to bring it
back to power safely, compliantly and without error. I believe I have the qualities to
engage with team members and get the most out of them.
