Background
Project Name: Budhigandaki Hydropower Project (1200 MW)

Total Energy: 3,383 Gwh
Budhi Gandaki Hydroelectricity Public Company Limited established on
2022/09/02
Located in Gorkha and Dhading districts on the Budhi Gandaki River
In 1984, a prefeasibility study of the project was prepared
NEA engineering company, a subsidiary of NEA, is now re-evaluating the cost
for the project.
The detailed study and design of the project has been completed.

3. Project
Status
This is the Government Project and the survey license
was issued to Government of Nepal.
Feasibility Study and detailed design report of the
was prepared by Tractebel Engineering company in
2015 and now it is being revised by NEA Engineering
Co. Ltd.
Access Road : Dam and Powerhouse site are at a
distance of about 1.5 km from the road head
(Benighat).
EIA status: EIA Completed.
Land Acquisition : Land acquisition process is ongoing.
Total land needed to be acquired is 2,958.46 Hectare,
until now 2,490.17 Hectare has been acquired
PPA status: On Process

4. Project
Status
Financial closure (FC) status : Final project budget is
being re-evaluation by NEA Engineering Company Ltd
and it is estimated to be about 300 Billion NRs (2.4
Billion NRS, exchange rate 1:125). Financial closure
will follow afterwards.
Source of Fund: Government of Nepal (including
annual budget and fuel tax) will collect fund, besides
these, Government of Nepal has plan to make NEA
public company and capital collected from IPO can be
utilized for the project.
Bid Document Preparation: Estimated for 2023
Tender floating plan: Estimated for 2023
