3. 1.1. HYDEL CAPABILITIES AND
POSSIBILITIES
Nepal has more than 6000 rivers.
Bestowed with 2.27% of world water resources we have a
huge Hydropower potential. In terms of MW , potential is
estimated at 83,000MW of which half i.e. 42,000MW is
considered to be technically and economically viable.

4. 1.2. Production Demand and supplyof
Hydel
Till date has been able to develop only approx. 677.06MW of
hydropower (477.53MW owned NEA and 199.53MW by private sector)
Bulk of economically feasible generation hasn’t been realised yet.
The annual peak demand of Integrated Power System in fiscal year
2013/2014 is estimated to be 1,201MW with 410MW power estimated to
have been shed.
Demand is increased by 9.7% compared to previous fiscal year 13/14.
76.3% of total population has excess to electric power.i.e 2.56 million of
Nepalese have excess to electric power.
