ASSURE Monday Lesson Plan
Analyzing the students: One 8th Grade Classroom in West Virginia, Nine boys and eleven girls,
Eleven Caucasian students, Six African-American students, and Three Asian-American students.
Stating the Objective: By the end of the sixth lesson and day, students will have learned how to
blog about the topic they have chosen for their final speeches, how to use peer review in
comments and on social media, how to write an outline for their speech, and how to research and
cite speeches.The students will learn this by blogging about their subject to familiarize
themselves with it, commenting on each other’s blogs in order to critique details about the
expression of their topics, and posting on Facebook their thesis statement for their speech for the
instructor to check. They will do all this with 100% accuracy.
Selection of Method: Students will be asked to start their own blogs about the topic they have
chosen for their five minute speech. When their bog entry is completed, they will comment on
each other’s blogs, giving ideas and criticism to each other. Students will then write a thesis
statement which they will post on the speech Facebook page created by the instructor. The
instructor will check the thesis and comment if there needs to be any changes.

Prepare Learners: The instructor will explain and show how to open a blog at blogspot.com on
the Smart Board, then explain the assignment and show the class the Facebook page.
Require Learner participation: Students will comment on each other’s topic in the blogs and give
feedback through the comments.
Evaluations of Method and Media: Students will comment on Facebook after they have turned in
their thesis statement, and describe their favorite and least favorite part of the lesson.
