3. Main Objective: By the end of five lessons, this sixth grade class
will have learned:

How to pick an appropriate informative speech topic
How to brainstorm & write a rough draft of an informative speech
How to develop thesis & polish essay while typing final draft
How to choose appropriate, corresponding visual aids for their speech
How to present three minute speeches coherently to an audience
Students will learn these skills by:
Researching on computers & in texts for their topic and information for their
topic
Brainstorming in groups so the students can discuss their topics while
writing rough drafts
Developing thesis, introduction, & conclusion, typing beginning of speech in
class, complete for homework
Brainstorming ideas for visual aids in groups to discuss & share different
thoughts
Presenting three minute speech, with thirty second cushion, while audience
takes notes on each speech
4. Breakdown of The Five
Lessons
• Lesson One: Instruction sheet hand
out, Instructor verbally reads instruction sheet to
class, presents PowerPoint with instructions and
examples, video of informative speech, students
must identify Thesis, Introduction, Body, &
Conclusion
• Lesson Two: Students will research their chosen
topic in groups using educational search engines
while taking notes & citing information
• Lesson Three: Students will be grouped to
discuss each other’s topics, choose visual aids
and to compose a rough draft while
brainstorming, rough draft must be checked by
students in the group for editing

• Lesson Four: Students will type out
final copies of their speech & citations
where they found the
information, then find key words to
write on note cards
• Lesson Five: Students will Present
speeches in three minutes, must hand
in typed complete speech, audience
will take notes on each speech
