2. EMPIRE
The Empire magazine appears to really incorporate ideas from the films in the backgrounds. They incorporate colours from the film
titles on the rest of the cover, even if it is unrelated to the film. As you can see from the 'Inception' and 'Interstellar' magazine
covers, they have made the title of the magazine, 'Empire', in the same font and style as the title of the film.
On each magazine, there is included information about various other films
which will be featured within the magazine.
From looking at this graph, we can see that the majority of Empire readers
are aged 15-34 but they also reach a large amount of adults over the age
of 35. This is good for our film as our target audience would be key in this
age range.
There is also a large man, woman ratio with male readers being over
double of the female readers. For this reason, I think that it would not be
as effective putting our film in this magazine as our main target audience
is female based.
3. TOTAL FILM
Like Empire, Total Film magazine alters the colour of their
magazine title to match the colour or style of the film being
shown. However they remain with the same font and size of
their title in order to keep their brand identity.
The readers are primarily aged 17-35. The editors aim to
appeal to 'the hardcore filmgoer and the casual viewer alike.'
From looking at the covers, the films are mainly action based
like Empire. This suggests that the majority of its readers are
also male.
4. SIGHT AND SOUND
Unlike, Empire and Total film, Sound and
Sight keep their title the same throughout
their variety of covers. The layout of this
magazine is more neat than the other two
and does not include lots of other
information on the cover.
Sight and sound aim at an audience of intellectual people
who are interested in the analysis and breaking down of
films.
5. LITTLE WHITE LIES
Little White Lies (LWL) magazine has a completely alternative
approach to their cover to the other magazines that I have
looked at. All of the covers have been drawn or have a sketch
like look to them.
I think that for this magazine the gender audience is both
female and male. This is due to the variety colours and artistic
nature of the covers. In their drawings, they use colours which
would encourage both genders to read it. Mainly, this
magazine is for anyone with an artistic nature and who is
keen about film analysis.
6. OUR MAGAZINE
COVER
From the magazine's that I have looked at, I
think that we should use Little White Lies to
show our film. This is due to it being a more
independent film based magazine due to it
being an independent magazine. It also
appeals greatly to a younger audience due
to arty and quite youthful covers. I also
believe it appeals to females more than
some of the alternative magazines as it
includes a wide range of colours and films.
