2. SIGHT AND SOUND
• Sight and sound covers are much more simplistic
then other magazine covers. They have a rustic
style. Other magazine such as empire are much
more high tech and modern
• The title of the magazine is always the same- a
very simplistic font in red and yellow
• The image on the cover look as though they have
been simply taken out of the film and slightly
manipulated to include more iconography and
information
• Audience: the main readers are people who want
to be educated who are interested in critical
analysis of films.
• The magazine covers international, independent
and art house films
3. EMPIRE
• Empire magazine is the UK's best film magazine, each monthly
movie issue looks at the world of commercial and arthouse cinema
bringing you film reviews, features and set reports.
• Empire incorporates the colour schemes and iconography of the
films into their covers for example the terminator is a machine so
metallic colours are incorporated into the title.
• Audience: most of the empire readers are males ages 15-34 years
old. The age range is ideal for our film as it falls into our films
target audience; however, our target audience if mainly females
whereas this magazines audience is mainly males. Therefore,
Empire magazine would not be suitable for out film.
• Empire covers tend to have popular Hollywood blockbusters as
their cover focus. The majority of these films also seem to be
action films. Our film is a drama this serves as another reason we
should not use empire as our magazine.
4. TOTAL FILM
• Total Film magazine covers are much more
cluttered then other film covers I have looked
at. These magazine covers have a main focus
film but also include information on what else
is in the magazine
• Unlike the other magazine covers Total have a
tagline in much larger letters which allows the
audience to get some insight into what the film
maybe about.
• Total seem very flexable with how they present
their covers the only thing that remains the
same on each of these covers is the font of the
magazine title. Other than this things such as
layout colourand font of other text seems to
change
• Audience: ages 17-35 which again fits into our
age range.
5. LITTLE WHITE LIES
• ‘Each issue of the magazine dedicates its entire front section to
an upcoming theatrical release, drawing inspiration from the
themes and visual tone of the carefully selected film. The back
section features essential reviews of the latest movie releases,
plus exclusive interviews, festival reports and more.’
• The covers for the magazine are much more artistic then other
magazines. The cover is drawing of the characters and does not
always give the title of the film
• I think this magazine appeals to a younger Audience due to its
creative style I also thing the audience would mainly be female
as the style of the covers are much more feminine compared to
other magazines in addition the films chosen for the cover have
a more female based audience
• It seems that Little White Lies ted to focus on less popular films
more independent film where as other magazines focus on big
action black busters. I think this magazine would be ideal for our
film as it has all the necessary traits to reach the right target
audience.
• The Title for this magazine always remains the same, it is the
image on the cover that changes.
