WHO WOULD BE THE
AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT
L O U I S E D A V E N P O R T
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
As a group when first thinking about what we could include we looked into many issues
in which may arise with different age restrictions and also what the film contains and
how would people respond to this. As we have made a horror/ thriller type opening we
all thought that it may appeal to a older teenaged audience as these are very commonly
popular at this age and this is then why when creating such things as the story board we
had to keep in mind the age we had chosen.
15
We chose a fifteen rating as this is an older teenaged
audience and is the age in which horror films become
appealing and this is when teenagers are mostly to go and
watch them. We also chose a 15 rating because when we
were researching we gave out our questionnaires to
teenagers and because we are of that age we mostly
discussed the opening with many people of this age of all
genders.
When discussing the opening plans with my group we were discussing
things that are very common in 15 rated films so we looked into the BBFC
regulations. As well as this because we are of that age we found that
when discussing the things we should include in the film that it is very
easy when making something for your own age range as because my
group was very aware of things it became easier to know what to include
through the use of our own knowledge and the use of our research and
surveys.
When looking at other audiences we had to figure out both the
pros and cons of each we figured in the end among ourselves
that if we were to give this and eighteen audience then only
certain people would watch this and it would restrisct who
would want to come and see the overall film. So by aiming it at
the age rating of 15 it then broadens the audience meaning
that it would appeal to more people.
Overall through the planning stages we made sure not to include anything that would
not appeal to the audience, we did this through the research that we did and also use
our own preferences. We then showed this all like isolation, thriller in the opening so that
they would want to watch the full film. When editing that opening we also feel like we
have put the correct music onto the opening to add tension and also snow screens. This
then supports the fact that not only will our target audience enjoy it but so will other
people from other audiences as the editing is very generic to the storyline.
